MILLER'S 83 YARD RUN GIVES LOBOS 13-12 VICTORY
LONGVIEW - An 83-yard run by young Dick Miller, fast-stepping halfback, in the closing minutes of the fourth quarter gave Longview's Lobos a 13-to-12 victory over the Masonic Home Masons of Fort Worth here Friday night in one of the most thrilling games ever seen here.

The win also boosted the Lobos over their second 1936 district champion in two weeks.

Miller's long run, an end sweep, during which he eluded half a dozen tacklers, then outran the safety, fished the ball game out of fire, into which their numerous fumbles repeatedly threw it. The jaunt followed a beautiful kick by Sealey that carried to the Lobo ten and apparently sewed up the game.

The Masons opened up on the first play with a passing attack that dazzled the Lobos and made fans think Dutch Meyer's gang had been run in on them. Wilson Pliler, outstanding individual play of the game, heaved a 35-yard pass to Simmons the first play after kickoff and followed with a pass that was intercepted by Longview.

The Lobos kicked out, but passes put them back in the hole. The next drive was capped by a 16-yard heave by Pliler to Bourland for a touchdown. Steven's try-out was blocked, making the score 6-0, as the half ended.

The Lobos showed their stuff in the second half and their running attack worked well in midfield. Twice in the waning minutes the Lobos bogged down inside the ten. Once after Hardy Miller intercepted a Mason pass and ran 64 yards to the Mason six.

Longview intercepted a pass on its own 25. Dick Miller took it to the 9. Cantrell, on a reverse, got to the 1-yard line and fumbled, the Masons recovering.

Sealey kicked out, and three nice runs by Miller took it back to the 8. Cantrell hit center for three, then went over on a spinner for a touchdown. The kick was good and the Lobos led, 7-6.

A bad pass from center led to the Masons' second score. Bonds, Mason end, recovered it on the Lobo 28. Keeley, with Pliler out of the game, started chunking and completed three heaves to put the ball on the 3-yard line as the period ended.

The Masons called Posey, 236-pound tackle, back and he hit the line for a touchdown. The try for point failed and the Masons led 12 to 7.

After that the Masons played safe, trying ground plays and kicking on fourth downs.

They got the best of two exchanges of kicks and the last went to the Lobo 17. Dick Miller then began his long jaunt to the goal line and the scoring was over.
