| LONGVIEW - Longview high school's football machine Friday held its first victory of the 1937 campaign - a 25 to 0 win over the North Dallas Bulldogs.
Before a crowd of several thousand at the fair grounds, the Lobos unleashed a power attack in the first half to roll up a large lead then coasted in the final frame. Out of the game came a replacement to Jack Skipper, lost by graduation, in Dick Miller, a fresh Corsicana younger who led the locals with his passing and running. Miller scored two touchdowns himself, and tossed a touchdown pass for the third mark before retiring from the tilt. Longview capitalized on the opening play as captain Daniel recovered a North Dallas fumble on the visitors 32-yard maker and after four line plays had gained only four yards, Miller dashed around right end for a 16-yard spring over the goal. A few moments later Ray Cantrell, halfback, sent a beautiful kick which was downed on the Bulldog one-yard line. Austin's kick was rushed and carried only to his 33. Miller rushed right end for 12 yards and passed to Burandt, right end, when the wingman was trapped, he flipped a forward to Jordan who tallied. Miller made the third touchdown on the first play in the second period on a seven-yard dash while the final score was a heave from LeBus to Cantrell. Although the Lobos form showed clearly it was early season, the club demonstrated it will have a varied attack and a strong defense. |
