LONGVIEW HIGH CONTINUES TO WIN
LONGVIEW - Led by Dick Miller, a dazzling halfback, the Longview Lobos defeated the McKinney High Lions, in the Gregg County Capital Friday night by the decisive score of 32-to-7 before a large crowd of East Texans, who are backing the Lobos as future state champions.

Although they walloped the Red and Blue by four touchdowns, the Longview lads found out the M.H.S line braced time and time again. Local fans asserted they fought its best battle of the season.

The game was much closer and harder fought than the score indicated, one McKinney fan said Saturday. With only ten minutes remaining in the final quarter, McKinney had the ball on the Longview one-foot line with the score 19-to-7 against them. But they couldn't put it across and the Lobos intercepted a pass and ran 75 yards for their fourth touchdown. They passed 40 yards for the final score, of which came in the last five minutes.

In the Miller boys, the Lobos had two distinct scoring threats who wriggled away from the fighting McKinney line despite its excellent play, making nice gains. The play was marred by numerous penalties against the Lobos and fumbles by both sides, some of which came at spectacular times.

Longview counted once each in the first and second quarter. Cantrell plowed over the last yard in their first score and then kicked goal.

Deep in the second quarter, Dick Miller squirmed through tackle and wiggle away from four McKinney men for the second touchdown from the 13 yard line. The kick was bad.

Dick Miller scored the third tally, in the third quarter, when he circled right end for 8 yards. Again McKinney linesmen and backs were in position, but could not down the speed merchant.

The Lions' passing attack worked well in the last half, their score came shortly after the third Lobo marker. In fact they brought the kickoff back 55 yards for the score, mixing in two passes to Turner Bowen for 23 yards and a short pass and driving run from Leon Smith to Caraway for 28 to the Longview 12. George Perkins plowed over the last two yards and then kicked goal.

Dick Miller then provided the crowd with its biggest thrill. After the Lobos had repulsed a Lion attack on their 6-inch line and kicked out, Miller intercepted a Lion pass and ran it back 75 yards for a score. He was never touched.

The Greenies made the final score when LeBus passed 40 yards to Knox for a score.

Total yards gained from scrimmage - including passing and rushing - showed the closeness of the battle. Longview made 272 to McKinney's 172, while the Lobos lost 31 yards and McKinney lost 13.

The Lion line was superb, while Leon Smith and George Perkins as well as Tom Caraway and Henry Simpson did their best back fielding of the year.
