LOBOS WIN DISTRICT OPENER, 48-0
MESQUITE - Longview reached into the depths of its offensive juggernaut and found tight end Michael Berryman, who caught a pair of touchdown passes as the Lobos opened District 12-5A by routing Mesquite 48-0 Friday night at Hanby Stadium.

It was a thorough dismantling of Mesquite as Longview dominated from start to finish.

Vondrell McGee and Chris Ivory extended their consecutive touchdown streak to five games, and Carlin Freeman threw for pair of scores and added one on the ground.

Defensively, Longview came away with five turnovers. Linebacker Kelcie Oliver picked off a pair of passes, giving the defense its seventh and eighth interceptions over the last three games. The Lobo defense allowed the Skeeters just 96 yards total offense.

Longview improves to 5-0 on the season, while Mesquite fell to 3-2.

For the Lobos, it marked five straight games with a touchdown on the opening drive.

Longview drove 73 yards in six plays with Berryman doing the honors on a 12-yard swing pass for the touchdown. Freeman was a perfect 3-for-3 on the drive, tossing a screen pass to Ivory for 35 yards and then hitting Adrian Reese on a short hitch that set up a first-and-goal.

Berryman came up big again two series later as Longview put together an 88-yard, 13-play drive, pulling down a Freeman pass in the back of the end zone on third-and-six from the Mesquite 9-yard line.

The Lobos methodically drove down the field behind the ground game provided by McGee and Ivory. Although, Reese and Freeman hooked up for a 17-yard reception to move Longview deep into Skeeter territory.

Longview got the ball back again after a short quick kick by Mesquite, taking possession at its own 44. Freeman went to the air on first down and this time found David Robinson for a 27-yard gain. The Lobos needed to convert a fourth-and-one at the Skeeter 20, with McGee pulling away from a number of Mesquite defenders who were trying to drag him down for a 6-yard pick up.

McGee subsequently finished off the eight-play, 56-yard drive on a 10-yard toss play down the left side untouched into the end zone. Zach Decker tacked on his third consecutive point-after kick.

The Lobos quickly got the ball back with an Oliver interception as Mesquite lined up in an apparent quick kick formation, but instead threw the ball on fourth-and-17. However, Oliver stepped in front of Lanford's attempted pass.

With D'Marcus Miles in at quarterback, Longview kept the ball on the ground. Ivory rumbled for 11 yards and Mark Johnson picked up 15. Ivory finished off the drive with back-to-back runs of six and three yards for a decisive 28-0 lead heading into intermission.
