LATE DRIVE SAVES LOBOS
ROCKWALL - Longview turned to its running game with Vondrell McGee scoring the game-winner on a 5-yard carry as the Lobos escaped Wilkerson-Sanders Memorial Stadium with a 14-10 come-from-behind victory over Rockwall Friday night.

The inspired Yellowjackets threatened to spoil No. 5 state-ranked Longview's perfect season.

Trailing 10-7 with 5:37 left in the game, the Lobos put together a 79-yard, 10-play drive behind the running of Chris Ivory and McGee. Ivory carried four times for 38 of his game-high 110 yards on 16 carries, while McGee ran three times for 11 yards, scoring on a 5-yard run with 2:12 remaining on the clock.

Willie Cloyd's extra point made it 14-10 in favor of Longview.

The Lobos also picked up a couple of key first downs on a pair of passes from Carlin Freeman to Malcolm Kelly.

The Lobos improved to 4-0 in District 12-5A play and remain the front-runner. Rockwall, which earlier this week picked up a district win due to a forfeit as Mesquite Horn played an ineligible player in an earlier 7-6 victory by the Jaguars, falls to 2-5 and 1-2.

The game featured a host of penalties by both teams. Longview was flagged 11 times for a season-high 112 yards, while Rockwall was penalized for 85 yards on 10 flags.

Trailing 10-7, the Yellowjackets moved ahead on a Brett Clow-to-Andy Tanner 10-yard pass for the go-ahead score. The drive followed a short punt by Clow as the Yellowjackets took over at the Longview 45. Clow completed three big passes, connecting with Bobby Taylor for 20 yards, followed by another 20-yard completion to Andrew Gordon.

Then on third-and six from the 10, Tanner leaped to snatch the ball from a Lobo defender for the touchdown.

Clow finished the game 10-of-17 for 119 yards, one touchdown and an interception. It was his one pick by Rashah Williams with 35 seconds remaining that sealed the victory for Longview.

McGee, who came into the game with 1,117 yards for the season, finished with 73 on 14 carries. His touchdown was the 16th of the season for the junior tailback.

Rockwall had missed an earlier chance to take the lead as they drove to the Lobo 12 yard-line before Roderick Taylor recovered a Yellowjacket fumble. The drive by the Jackets followed a Lobo turnover at their own 44.

Ivory's 9-yard scoring run, with 52 seconds remaining before halftime, rescued what had been for nearly two quarters a penalty-marred performance by the Lobos.

The scoring drive for Longview covered 30 yards in three plays. Ivory carried for 11 yards, Freeman added 10 more to give the Lobos a first-and-goal at the Rockwall 9. Then with Freeman lined up in shotgun formation, the junior quarterback handed off to Ivory, who burst up the middle into the end zone.

For most of the first half, Rockwall controlled the clock while taking a 3-0 lead on a 28-yard field goal by Jonah Longino with 1:29 left in the first quarter. It was the second straight possession where the Yellowjackets had driven into Longview's end of the field.

Longino had a 49-yard field goal attempt go wide left on Rockwall's opening possession after the Lobo's went three-and-out to start the game.

Longview was flagged six times for 70 yards in the first half.
