| WACO - Marcus Applewhite stepped infront of a Carlin Freeman pass and South Garland put a quick end to Longview's postseason with a stunning 14-7 bi-district victory in overtime here Saturday on a wet, overcast afternoon at Waco ISD Stadium.
The Colonels, out of District 12-5A, improve to 9-2 and advance to face Dallas Carter in a Region II Class 5A Division II area playoff next week. Longview, which was making its third straight postseason appearance, ends it season at 7-4. South Garland took possession to start the overtime, and on thrid-and-9 from the 24-yard line Jordan Reever found Lance Colburn in the left front corner of the end zone for the touchdown. Longview, which struggled all day with just 127 yards total offense, never got untracked in the overtime either as the Lobos faced third-and-10 at the 23 when Freeman attempted a pass toward Durrell Horne near the left sideline. South Garland managed only 63 yards rushing. The touchdown ended a streak of six consecutive quarters without a touchdown for the Lobos, who were shutout 14-0 by Lufkin to close out 11-5A play. South Garland knotted the game at the 9:53 mark of the fourth quarter as Reever and James Alford hooked up for eight yards. The drive by the Colonels covered 84 yards in 15 plays. Reever, who was just 5 of 12 for 11 yards at halftime, completed five passes for 46 yards, while connective with four different receivers. The Colonels' signal-caller was even briefly sidelined for a playoff after being laid out on the turf by Henson on a quarterback keeper, which also drew a penalty flag for a late hit by the Lobo linebacker. Reever finished the game by completing 20 of 33 passes for 142 yards. He also had one interception, which was picked off by Keaton Daniels - his third of the season - to thwart the Colonels' first drive of the game as they had reached the Lobo 17. Longview did have one final march in regulation as the Lobo went from their own 37 to the South Garland 37-yard line in the closing minute.
