NO. 2 LONGVIEW TOPS NACOGDOCHES, 42-3
NACOGDOCHES - Fred Talley rushed for over 200 yards for the second straight week, and the Longview defend shut down Nacogdoches' wishbone attack to capture a 42-3 win Friday Night at Dragon Stadium.

The win improves to the Lobos to 8-0 for the season and 3-0 in District 12-5A.

Longview came into the game tied with Austin Westlake for the state's No. 2 ranking in the Associated Press poll. With top-ranked John Tyler's 24-14 loss to Lufkin, the Lobos could move into the top spot when the new poll is released on Monday.

Talley ran for 219 yards on 17 carries and scored three touchdowns. He had 222 the previous week against Tyler Lee. The junior tailback sat out the fourth quarter as backup Jesse James added 51 yards on six yards, and third string tailback Calvin Coleman picked up 59 yards on five totes.

Meanwhile, the Lobo defense held the Dragons to 109 yards on the ground and 77 through the air - 61 coming on one pass play. Cornerback Dexter Daniels intercepted two passes and Tracy Brooks fell on one of two fumbles recovered by Longview.

Brooks was also on the receiving end of a Jay Hurst 21-yard touchdown pass in the third quarter. The Lobos put up 28 points in the frame as Lee Nix connected with Shawn Byrdsong on a 16-yard touchdown reception and later found David Waterhouse in the end zone for a 6-yard scoring play. Ian Todd came off the bench to boot a pair of extra points as well.

Longview, which had lost two of the last three games at Dragon Stadium, sputtered offensively in the first quarter. The Lobos went three-and-out on their first three series.

Nacogdoches (4-4, 0-3) used a 31-yard punt return by Aaron Brister to set up a Doug Miller 29-yard field goal with 4:23 showing in the quarter for an early 3-0. The lead stood through the end of the opening frame.

The Dragons were also driving again early in the second quarter when Kavonski Chatman fumble and Longview recovered at its own 10-yard line. On the Lobos' first play from scrimmage they were flagged for illegal motion, moving the ball back to the five.

On the next play, Talley took a toss from Nix five yards deep in his own end zone and quickly broke through the Dragon defense and ran an official 95 yards for the touchdown. David Monsivais tacked on the extra point as Longview jumped in front to stay 7-3 with 10:59 left before halftime.

However, the Lobo offense continued to sputter. With 7:46 remaining, Nacogdoches moved again into Longview's end of the field. But the Lobo defense would stiffen as the Dragons turned the ball over on downs at the 32.

Longview then began its longest march of the night, going 68 yards in eight plays before Talley burst through the line on a one-yard run and a 14-3 halftime advantage.
