LONGVIEW BLANKS TEXAS HIGH, 37-0
LONGVIEW - Alfonso David intercepted two passes and recovered a fumble - all in the second half - to help stop Texas High's offense, while the Longview offense got back on track and pounded out a 37-0 non-district win Friday night at Lobo Stadium.

For coach Robert Bero, in his seventh year at the helm, it was his 50th career win and was the Lobos' second victory this season, avenging last week's 13-0 defeat to Killeen.

It was a turnaround performance from a week ago when Longview fumbled five times and threw an interception and could not get its offense out of the gate. This time, despite a fumble on the firs play of the game, the Lobos turned the ball over only once, that coming on a second-half interception.

The Longview defense, though, came up with five turnovers, three fumbles and two pass interceptions - both by Davis, a 180-pound junior. Davis returned his thefts 55 yards and recovered his fumble on the second-half kickoff to Texas High.

Utilizing three tailbacks, two fullbacks and two quarterback, the Lobos posted a 23-0 halftime lead and piled up 333 yards.

Sccond-half scores were by quarterback Cory Hutchings on a 19-yard, fourth-down sprint - it was the third touchdown on a fourth-down play - and a 12-yard up-the-gut Juan Ingram run with 1:30 left in the game.

Ingram's touchdown came four plays after a Mike Davis fumble recovery at the Tiger 32. Hutchings' score ended a seven-play, 60-yard hike which was highlighted by a 20-yard Thaddeus Floyd run.

Longview had five backs with over 30 yards rushing, Chris Butcher leading the way with 87 and two touchdowns on 15 carries.

The Lobos kept the Tigers bottled up the entire first half, making them start four drives at their own 20-yard line. The Tigers made it into Lobo territory only once, to the 36 on their first possession, and had just four first downs at intermission.

Longview, meanwhile, scored on four of five possession, and had 202 yards at the break.

The Lobos scored the initial time they had the ball on a fourth-and-18 play when Hutchings connected with Chris Cox on a 29-yard strike with 7:20 remaining. The drive covered 62 yards, took nine plays and was sparked by a 25-yard Butcher gainer.

The next score, a 14-yard Butcher run, was set up when Dyvortig Dixon recovered a fumbled punt return at the Tigers' 23. Again the touchdown came on a fourth-down play, and on the first play of the second period.

Longview begins a two-game road trip next Friday by going to Bryan and Texas High takes on Tyler Lee.
