LOBOS TURN BACK TYLER LEE, 42-14
TYLER - Longview offered up its traditional stop me-if-you-can game plan and Tyler Lee couldn't.

Buoyed by LaMarcus White's 261 yards rushing and three touchdowns on 25 carries, the Lobos shoved the ball down the midsection of the Red Raiders and waltzed off the Rose Stadium turf with an impressive 42-14 District 15-5A triumph here Friday night.

The win kept defending champion Longview in the thick of the loop chase with a 2-1 record (6-2 overall) and enabled them to bounce back from last week's loss to Nacogdoches. For Lee (5-2-1), it was their first loss in district and ruined their best start in 20 years.

Longview moved the ball at will, converting 29 first downs and piling up 483 yards rushing. Quarterback Chris Judy completed all three of his passes, but he was at his best handing the ball off to White, who was playing in place of injured started Amond Hutchings, and fullback Alton McAlister, who combined for 364 yards.

When White wasn't running, the Lobos' patented sweep, McAlister was getting quick-hitters up the middle. The bullish fullback carried only 10 times.

White had scoring runs of six, 11 and 60 in the second half when they scored on every possession but their last, and the ball was at the Lee nine when reserve quarterback Levin Fuller elected to down the ball as time ran out.

White capped drives of 73, 70 and 64 yards, utilizing the speed which had him as a member of the Lobos' state champion 400-meter relay tandem last spring.

Lee's vaunted passing attack never really was unleashed. Andy Newberry hit 12 of 30 passes for 182 yards and star wide receiver Fred Coleman caught six for 121 yards, but only once did he break loose for a long score, that being a 59-yarder late in the third period.

The Lobos held Lee scoreless in the first half, only the second time the Red Raiders have failed to score in the firs half this season, and used a pair of second quarter touchdowns to take a 14-0 lead.

Longview methodically drove down the field early in the quarter, running the ball six straight times, two of which ere blasts from the Lee one-yard line. After a five-yard illegal procedure penalty, however, Judy stepped back and hit Chad Daniels on a six-yard strike for the first score with 7:28 remaining.

Daniels went in motion every play and had provided extra blocking up to that point.

The ground game paved the way for the second score as well as White sprinted 40 yards on the first play of the drive and four plays later Daydrion Taylor went in from seven yards out with 4:39 left.

Longview appeared to have scored late in the stanza too, when Judy hit Brent Goerner on a pass from the 36-yard line, but he was called for offensive pass interference and the play was nullified.

On one other occasion, in the opening quarter, White was hit and bobbled the ball at the Lee nine-yard line where Edward Brown recovered. The 10-play drive was all on the ground and covered 59 yards.

So, a fumble and a penalty, is all that kept the Lobos from holding a 28-0 lead at the intermission.
