MAVS THRASH LOBOS, 27-7
LONGVIEW - Too much Trency Clough in the fourth quarter and too many Longview mistakes ended the Lobos' postseason hopes as district champion MArshall captured a 27-7 regular season finale win before a crowd of 10,000 Friday night at Lobo Stadium.

The Marshall junior wide receiver caught five passes in the game for 75 yards, including a big 25-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter after a Lobo turnover.

Marshall, ranked ninth in the state, completes District 12-5A play at 5-0, 8-2 overall for the season, and moves on to bi-district play against Garland Lakeview Centennial next Saturday in Dallas at the Cotton Bowl.

Longview, whited started the season at 6-0 and had reached a No. 3 ranking in the state, ends the year at 6-3-1 and 1-3-1 in district.

The Lobos after trailing at the half 13-0, rallied behind a Kevin Madden 35-yard touchdown run off a busted play with 2:46 left in the third quarter. Dean Malone's point-after cut the deficit to 13-7.

But turnovers cost Longview down the stretch.

Andre Davis' second fumble of the game, gave the Mavericks the ball at the Lobo 30 early in the final quarter. On third-and-five from the 25, quarterback Chad Fox connected with Clough to give Marshall some breathing room.

One series later, Madden, who replaced starting quarterback Jason Dodson late in the third quarter, threw a costly interception to John Talley giving the Mavericks possession at Longview's 41. A late hit called on the Lobos moved them even closer to the 26.

Six plays later, D.D. Turner drove into the end zone from a yard out with 5:29 to play. A Fox to Daily Johnson two-point conversion pas extended Marshall's lead to 27-7.

Turner, who came into Friday's game trailing Davis in the race for the district rushing leader, finished with a 109 yards on 28 carries, and scored twice. The senior tailback went over 1,000 yards for the second straight year.

Davis, a junior, carried 20 times for 68 yards to push him over 1,000.

The Mavericks opened the scoring after Longview turned the ball over on its own eight following a snap on fourth down that punter Brian Bennett couldn't field.

Touching the football for the first time in the game, Marshall twice went to turner, who rumbled in from five yards out on his second attempt.

The Mavericks' second touchdown followed their best sustained drive of the half, with Fox culminating an 80-yard, 15-play drive at the 6:44 mark of the second quarter on a 1-yard keeper.

A 26-yard pass from Fox to Clough on third-and-14 from the Lobos' 25 took the ball to the one. However, Randy Floyd blocked Shane Pyle's extra point attempt.

The Lobos twice moved into Maverick territory only to be turned away.

After the Mavericks scored on Turner's run, Longview behind the running of Davis reached the Marshall 25. But on second down Davis fumbled into Tyson Cochran recovered.

One series later, the Lobos again crossed midfield. Again a tackle of Davis for a 5-yard loss by Kelvin James at the Maverick 41 forced Longview to punt.

Marshall, meanwhile, was stalled by a pair of Fox interceptions, both corralled by B.T. Lawson.
