LONGVIEW ROLLS ON BY TRIMBLE TECH, 47-0
LONGVIEW - In the six previous meetings between Longview and Fort Worth Trimble Tech, the Lobos have averaged better than 30 points a game. Friday night, Longview had 35 at halftime.

The visitors did get a mild reprieve in the final two quarters, but the damage was already done as Longview romped to a 47-0 victory in the Lobos' 1990 home opener at Lobo Stadium.

Head coach Robert Bero had promised before the season began that he would continually substitute his lineup during the five non-district games. He certainly delivered as six different players took part in the scoring.

A program was needed to keep track of the players.

"This type of win was good for moral on the football team," Bero said. "All of the players got to play. At halftime, we told them to go back out and just execute."

The Lobos took advantage of Trimble Tech turnovers, scoring on four of them. But the real difference was a 28-point second quarter, aided by two of the Bulldogs' mistakes.

Leading 7-0 after a 38-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Jason Dodson to John Washington late in the first quarter, Trimble Tech turned the ball over at its own 31-yard line. It took Longview only four plays to cover the distance with fullback Mike Reedy lunging the final two yards for the touchdown.

Dodson, who had been sacked for a seven-yard loss on the previous play, recovered for a 31-yard run to the two on the a third-and-12 play to set up Reedy's touchdown with 11:09 remaining before halftime.

The Lobos would then score three touchdowns in a span of two minutes, 19 seconds to take a 35-0 lead into the dressing room.

Kevin Madden replaced Dodson on Longview's next series and directed an 80-yard, 10-play scoring drive. Madden went the final 16 yards on a busted play for the Lobos' third score of the night.

Their fourth score came one series later after defensive end Nick Richardson picked off a pass by Tech's second quarterback of the night, Gerald Davis, to give Longview a first down at the Bulldog 25. It would take Longview only one play as wingback Todd Dauper raced untouched into the send zone at the 2:54 mark.

The final points of the quarter came as a result of a staunch Lobo defensive series, which continually stuffed the Bulldogs throughout the game.

It started when Tech's kickoff return man Darius Weatherd stepped out of bounds at his own three. Two plays later, the Bulldogs fumbled for the third time and Longview's Derrick Head fell on the ball for six more points.

Dean Malone tacked on his fifth extra point of the half and Longview was in command, 35-0.

Longview ran 47 rushing plays with seven different backs carrying the football. Junior tailback, Andre Davis, who rushed for 149 yards in last Friday's opening victory against Killeen, had a light night with only 12 carries for 39 yards.

Backup Marques Ingram led the team with 45 yards on just five attempts. For the game, Longview totaled 256 yards on the ground.

The Lobos also found success with their passing game, completing 7 of 12 for 100 yards. Dodson garnered the 100 yards with a 6 of 11 performance and one touchdown.

Defensively, Trimble Tech was held to 68 total yards. In addition to four lost fumbles, the Bulldogs surrendered a pair of interceptions.

The Bulldogs only marched into Longview's end of the field twice. Turning it over once on a fumble in the second quarter and then giving it back to the Lobos on downs late in the game.

Longview's final points of the game came on a pair of one-yard runs. Madden scored with 8:15 left in the third quarter and Randy Floyd at the 3:49 mark of the fourth.

Longview continues its home stand next Friday (7:30 p.m.) by hosting Carrollton Newman Smith. The Lobos will play the next four games at home.
