| TEXARKANA - Grim Stadium turned out to be grim for Texas High as Longview dominated the Tigers in a 49-6 drubbing here Friday night.
The win improved the Longview's District 13-5A mrrk to 2-0, 4-1 overall, while Texas High remains winless at 0-2, 0-5. The Lobos and tailback Earnest Hunter put on an offensive show rolling up their highest offensive output of the season with 431 yards. Hunter posted 163 yards of that mileage on 11 carries, including two touchdowns. Hunter's 163 yards was the second consecutive 100-yard game for Longview. Running mate Carl Johnson ran for 120 yards last week against Tyler Lee. It was also a game where Longview had ample opportunity to use plenty of its personnel. The Lobos literally put this one away with 35 points in the first half, grabbing a 35-6 advantage heading into the dressing room. In the second half, the Lobos copped two scores within a minute of each other. The first on a three-yard run by Ray Allison, his fifth touchdown of the year, at the 11:34 mark of the fourth quarter and a 50-yard interception return by cornerback Calvin Jackson. Jackson's interception was one of three for Longview off Texas high quarterback Phil Martin. It gave the Lobos five for the season. Longview's Mean Green defense again had another outstanding performance, holding the Tigers to 159 total yards, including 66 on the ground and 93 passing. The Lobos went to work early, scoring on their first drive of they game, marking the fourth game this season they've done so. A 50-yard kickoff return by Hunter to the Tigers' 39-yard line helped get Longview rolling. Four plays later quarterback Mike bobo scored from one yard out with 11:07 to play. David Hill kicked the extra point. Texas High gave the ball right back to Longview when Martin fumbled the snap on the Tigers' first offensive series with Chris Fuller recovering at the opponent's 23. Five straight carries by Hunter finally resulted in his first touchdown on a two-yard sweep. Hill's extra point gave the Lobos a 14-0 lead with 9:02 left in the opening quarter. Texas High managed to move the ball 42 yards on its next series, but again a turnover gave the ball. Weak safety Anthony Jimmerson recorded his second interception of the year to put the Lobos' offense back on the field. Bobo guided the Lobos with 41 yards of passing before he himself took it in with 2:02 left in the opening quarter on an 11-yard keeper, his second touchdown of the night. Bobo, who had been injured in the final non-district game and missed last week's district opening start, completed 4-of-6 passes for 37 yards to give him 360 for the year. Hill's third extra point put the Lobos ahead 21-0. Martin, who also doubles as the Tigers' punter, delivered a 17 yard effort after recovering the snap that went over his head on the proceeding series, putting Longview back in business in Texas High's end of the field. Five plays later, Johnson penetrated the end zone with a 25-yard run. Hill's extra point turned this contest into a quick rout with 9:45 left before halftime. The Tigers, with their only offensive success coming from two first downs - one on a Longview penalty - intercepted Shawn Shawn Lawson, who had come in to replace Bobo half way through the second quarter. However, again they could not move the ball. It only took one play after receiving the ensuing punt, for Hunter to tally his second touchdown with a 77-yard burst with 5:07 left in the half. Hill added the extra point and a 35-0 lead. |
