LONGVIEW RAMBLES TO 36-13 TRIUMPH OVER LUFKIN
LUFKIN - Sparked by junior tailback Joe Johnson's three touchdowns and 134 rushing yards, the Longview Lobos came through with their best point production of the season in a 36-13 victory over Lufkin here Friday night.

It was perhaps, Longview's best overall effort of the season. It advanced their season record to 6-1 and kept them undefeated in District 13-AAAAA.

Johnson handed the Lobos 18 points on the night, his longest a 67-yarder in the fourth quarter. The 6'1, 191-pounder also had a 29-yard scoring run in the third as well as a 14-yard touchdown in the second.

Senior fullback Victor Crane had his best night thus far, racking up 72 yards on 12 carries. He gave Longview an early lead with a 1-yard plunge not their opening drive.

Mike Boyd came on late and added the Lobos' final touchdown on a 4-yard run. He carried for 21 yards on six totes.

Kicker Steve Blaschke came through with 4 of 5 extra pints, and the Lobo defensive front tackled Lufkin's James Jenkins in the end zone fro a safety in the second quarter.

Quarterback Eric Harris didn't make it into the end zone, but his 63 yards on 12 carries sparked the Longview offense time and again.

Harris also passed for 76 yards, completing four of nine. Leon Hendrix snagged three passes for 57 yards while Crane caught another for 19.

Lufkin managed to score early and late for its two touchdowns.

Quarterback Chris Cauley, who passed for 96 yards, brought the Panthers back quickly after the Lobos' first score.

He carried for a 5-yard touchdown with 2:59 left in the opening period, capping a 74-yard drive in 11 plays.

Return man Bruce Alexander, who ran a punt back 95 yards against Marshall, brought one back 65 for six points Friday night.

In the passing department, Cauley completed 7 of 19 for 96 yards and backup Jerome Darks completed 2 of 4 for 12.

Longview's Tarodney Robertson, who picked off two passes against Nacogdoches a week ago, got another in the second quarter.

In addition to the safety, Lobo defenders Derwin Moore and Will Pegues each had a sack.

Top receivers for Lufkin were Galen Blanchard, who caught 2 for 35 yards, Alexander, who caught 2 for 24, and Alphonzo Stubblefield, ho caught 2 for 20.

Longview rushers combined for 325 yards against the Panthers for their best total of the season. The Lobo defense held Lufkin backs to just 73 yards.

Longview racked up 21 first downs to Lufkin's 13. There were more than a few yellow flags thrown. Lufkin was whistled eight times for 91 yards and Longview 10 for 72.

The Lobos had five fumbles and lose three. Lufkin fumbled once and lost it.

The loss drops Lufkin to 2-5 and 0-4.

The Lobos host Marshall next week, while the Panthers host Tyler Lee.
