TYLER LEE RALLIES TO 12-12 DEADLOCK
LONGVIEW - After watching Longview defeat its own purpose, and his teammates do the same, Tyler Lee quarterback William Oliver came off the bench to do something about it. And that he did.

Oliver, a 178-pound Sophomore, tested the Lobos secondary and came through with straight A's. Replacing starter David Reed late in the third quarter, Oliver directed the Red Raiders to two fourth quarter scores and a 12-12 tie at Lobo Stadium Friday night.

The Lobos were their own worse enemy, as they failed to cash in on the numerous scoring opportunities. Longview, now 1-1-1 in district play and 2-2-2 overall, finished the night with 281 yards in total offense to 258 for the Tyler visitors. At halftime, the Lobos had 10 first downs to their opponents' one, and led 10-0.

The second half was a completely different story as Longview was forced to punt the ball three times, and had drives stopped by two interceptions.

After failing to cross the 50 through the first three quarters, the Red Raiders crossed it three times in the final period, and Greg Arterberry's 38-yard field goal attempt was blocked with seven seconds remaining in the game.

Lee's two interceptions late in the game stopped Longview's furious rally. And the Red Raiders appeared content with the tie, raising their record to 1-4-1, and 0-2-1 in district.

Oliver, who finished the night with 6-of-8 for 130 yards, didn't work magic from the start. Facing third-and-15 from Tyler Lee's two-yard line, he carried for six yards on his first play. On fourth down, the high snap forced punter Gary Price out of the end zone, giving the Lobos a 12-0 lead with 2:24 left in the third quarter.

Starting at the Lee 47, two penalties set the Lobos back to their 33, and on fourth down, they punted. Ray Delk's punt was returned for a touchdown by Robert Estes, but a clipping call wiped it out.

After a two-yard gain, Oliver went for broke, hitting Arterberry for a 52-yard completion to the Longview 23. Estes ran for 14, and two plays later, Oliver bulled in for the score with 10:26 remaining. Arterberry's extra point failed.

After another Delk punt, Oliver went to the air, hitting Estes for 21 and 7, and Arterberry for 20 and 7, to move the team from their 39 to the Longview two. Estes tied the game with 4:16 left in the game. Arterberry again failed on the extra point.

Longview scored on its first possession, driving 96 yards in 14 plays with Clifford Ward sweeping right on a 23-yard touchdown run.
