LOBOS STAY PERFECT WITH 13-7 WIN
TEXARKANA - Longview bent, and bent, and even bent more in the second half here Friday night. But when they had to have it, the Lobos had it.

Using two field goals by Jim Tutt and two key pass interceptions by reno Hutchins, the No. 4 ranked Lobos ran their record to 8-0, 4-0 in conference, with a 13-7 win over their District 14-AAAA opponents.

The final 24 minutes was all Texarkana, except at the end when it counted the most. Longview was able to pick up only three first downs in the second half, all in the last 4:25. Texarkana ran off nine first downs and 125 yards not he ground as the Tigers, now 4-3 and 1-2, controlled the ball almost at will.

Longview was hit for ten penalties for a total of 119 yards in the contest, and the whistles began blowing from the outset. Longview's Sam Linear took the opening kickoff at his own eight, headed toward the middle of the field and was gone when he hit the fifty, 92 yards for a touchdown. But a yellow flag was laying on the Texarkana 47 as Longview was called for clipping. The touchdown was obviously nullified.

Tutt put Longivew into a 3-0 lead with a 32-yard field goal to save a 63-yard drive by the Lobos that stalled on the Tiger 15 after eight plays with 4:53 remaining in the first stanza.

Longview's only touchdown came with 10:08 left in the second quarter when Kenny Jackson hit Greg Brown with a 23-yard pass. The two had combined on a 31-yard strike just three plays earlier to set up the score. Tutt added the PAT to give Longview a 10-0 lead.

Hutchins' first interception came at the beginning of the second half when he stole a stray Tiger aerial at his own 35 and brought it all the way back to the Tiger 13.

After three plays gained only one yard, Tutt toted a 31-yard field goal for a 13-0 lead with 7:12 remaining in the third quarter.

Texarkana put on an 80-yard scoring drive on the ensuing kickoff, with Bo Millis scampering in the last ten yards.

Texarkana picked up 183 yards on the ground to Longview's 147, the first time all year the Lobos have been out gained overland. Jackson hit on three of nine passes, with four others being dropped, for a total of 76 yards, all in the first half.

Longview will host Marshall in the Lobos' 1977 Homecoming game next week while Texarkana will travel to Lufkin.
