LOBOS THROTTLE TEXARKANA
LONGVIEW - Longview scored on its first four possession enroute to an easy 33-3 victory over the Texarkana Tigers here Friday night.

The No. 3 ranked Lobos spotted Texarkana an early three-point lead when Eric Jones used a strong wind to boot a 40-yard field goal on the initial offensive possession of the game with 6:37 left in the first period.

But Longview came storming back after the ensuing kickoff with fullback John Henry Jones getting the comeback drive and to a rousing start with a 17 yard sprint on the Lobos' first offensive play.

The Lobos used a quarterback draw play for the first time this year, and Tim Martin drew everything he could out of the play as he ran for 30 yards on the 74-yard drive that ended when Martin crossed the double stripped line from 14 yards away with 1:37 left in the first canto.

From then on, it was all Longview.

Texarkana managed to put on a mild offensive flurry after the kickoff, but Jones missed badly on another 40-yard attempt and it took the Lobos just 12 plays and 5:23 to step off 80 yards with Sherman Johnson blasting across from the three-yard line.

After the kickoff, Longview's Mean Green defense dug in and held Texarkana on downs. Tiger Chris Marshall got off a 42-yard punt to the Lobo 42.

It seemed that the Lobos would be forced to hold onto their 12-3 lead at halftime, but after Johnson broke for seven yards on the first play, the Green Machine unveiled a trick play.

Kenny Jackson, normally a quarterback, came into a game as a wingback and took a reverse handoff from Martin. Jackson found a wide receiver Greg Brown behind the Texarkana secondary and hit him with a 47-yard strike that put the ball at the Tiger three.

Two plays later, Johnson cashed in from a yard away and Jim Tutt added the extra point for a 19-3 halftime edge.

The second half was no different. Longview took the kickoff and drove 80 yards in 16 plays in a time-consuming drive that ate up nearly eight minutes off the clock. Johnson again scored his third touchdown of the night on a one-yard run with 7:18 left in the third stanza.

Tutt again added the PAT to give the Lobos a 26-3 lead.

Longview's final touchdown came on an eight-yard pass from Jackson to tailback Dinky Edwards with 2:47 left in the game. Tutt added the PAT again for the final 33-3 margin.

Martin led all rushers with 93 yards on 12 carries while fullback John Henry Jones ran for 75 on 11 and Edwards added 60 on 10 tries. Quarterback Dan Davis led the Tigers with 38 steps on 11 attempts.

Martin failed to put the ball into the air but Jackson hit on all three of his attempts for 69 yards while three Tiger passers connected on just seven of 20 aerials of 81 yards.

The win moves the No. 3 ranked Longview squad to a spotless 8-0 season mark and a 4-0 slate in league play. Texarkana drops to 2-5 and 0-3.

Texarka could garner only 57 yards total offense in the second half and 161 for the game. Longview finished with 383 total yards.
