LOBOS WIN FIFTH CONSECUTIVE, 33-7
LONGVIEW - Despite hitting for more aerial yardage than Longview had allowed in the four previous games, Nacogdoches fumbled away the opening kickoff and it was downhill from there as the No. 2 ranked Longview Lobos posted an impressive 33-7 win here Friday night.

Seven plays following the fumbled kickoff return, quarterback Llewellyn Fambles carried the ball in from four yards out and Henry Williams added the point after for a 7-0 lead with only 3:25 gone in the game.

The encounter was the first District 14-AAAA content for both teams and leaves the Lobos with a sparkling 5-0 record while the Dragons fall to 2-2.

Nacogdoches snapped the ball only eight times in the opening quarter, including two punts, and Longview built up a 14-0 margin on its first two possessions. Ironically, the second scoring drive also took seven plays.

Fullback Sherman Johnson tallied from two yards with 3:49 left in the opening period. Williams again kicked the extra point.

Following several exchanges Longview initiated a drive at its 26-yard marker. Sparked by a 49-yard burst by Fambles, the Lobos were back on the scoreboard in just five plays. Tailback Leo McCoy, the team's leading scorer, took the pigskin in from two yards and Mark Belton tacked on the conversion with a 21-0 advantage with 4:12 remaining in the half.

The Dragons then put together their only sustained march of the veining, consequently touching the "Mean Green" defense for the first touchdown allowed this season, a five-yard pass from Blake Barnett to tight end Phillip Simpson. Dean Winthrop added only the 10th point the Lobos have relinquished in their five victories.

John Henry Jones and David Gibson tacked on third and fourth cant touchdowns to give Longview the final 33-7 nod.

McCoy was the game's leading rusher with 105 yards in 19 carries. Fambles chipped in with 71 in just nine.

The "Mean Green" was once again stingy in coughing up rushing yardage as Nacogdoches could get just 58 on the ground. Scatback Jerry Maxie had 41 of the 56, although Longview held a healthy 382-174 margin in total yards.

Longview treks to Tyler Lee next week while Nacogdoches must hook it up against Lufkin, one of last year's tri-champs with the Lobos and John Tyler. Tyler Lee was at Marshall and John Tyler at Texarkana in other 14-AAAA opening action Friday.
