PASCHAL SCORES, BUT LOBOS CAPTURE A 27-3 VICTORY
LONGVIEW - Fort Worth Paschal became the first team to score on the tenancies No. 2 ranked Longview but did little else as the Lobos rebounded from a meager 7-3 halftime lead to post a 27-3 win here Friday night.

Paschal's three points came on a 35-yard field goal by diminutive Ricky Bender, but only after a miscue and not any defensive breakdown by the celebrated "Mean Green." The field goal also came with just 15 seconds left in the opening half, breaking a streak of 13 straight quarters the Lobos had held opponents scoreless.

Ironically, Paschal was the first team to score on Longview a year ago and the only team in the first six games.

Meanwhile, Longview suffered through a somewhat lifeless first half in which only two sustained drives were put together, one ending at the visitors' one-yard line toward the end of the first period.

The Lobos did light up the scoreboard on their initial possession with a 10-play, 71-yard drive capped by Leo McCoy's one-yard plunge with 4:59 remaining.

Quarterback Llewellyn Fambles connected with tight end Gil Martin for 30-yards on a third-and-one situation to keep the drive alive and put the ball on the Paschal 17. Henry Williams tacked on the extra point for a 7-0 lead.

Longview's march which was halted at the one began at its own 39 and was sparked by Thomas Cook's 36-yard scamper to put the ball at the Paschal 10.

A high snap on a punt attempt resulted in a 23-yard loss, where Paschal took control of the ball at the Lobo 18. Three straight passes fell incomplete and Bender booted his three-point from there.

However, an inspired "Mean Green" held the Panthers to minus 15 yards in the second half as the offense cranked up and touched pay dirt three more times enroute to the win, the fourth in a row. The Panthers fell to 1-2.

Longview's first possession of the second half ended in an interception by Dean Gaynor. Four plays late rethought, Longview was once again on the offensive and moved the pigskin in from 59 yards out on the second touchdown. Quarterback Tim Martin did the honors when he took advantage of a crunching block by Harris and scored in from 20 yards out with 7:26 left in the third quarter.

Martin picking up a bad snap on the point after tried scrambling around and finally hit wingback David Morris deep in the end zone for a two-point conversion and a 15-3 Lobo margin.

While the defense was assaulting the Panthers, Longview took over with 5:25 left in the third quarter and moved in for still another score two minutes later. McCoy got the call and carried eight yards. He also had a 40-yard run to the three-yard marker in the 60-yard drive, only to have 15 yards taken off by a 15-yard dead ball penalty.

Longview tallied once more, for the third straight time, when Fambles saw an opening on an option play and darted in from 12 yards out with 10:24 left in the game. The drive started at the Paschal 44 and after a 14-yard punt return by Johnny Fuller.
