LOBOS WIN NO. 2 IN 34-0 ROMP OF WACO RICHFIELD
WACO - A menacing "Mean Green" defense and a quick-play offense boosted Longview's No. 3 rated Lobos to a rousing 34-0 victory over Waco Richfield here Friday night.

Richfield could manage only a meager two yards rushing against the stingy Lobos defenders in the first half and ended the game with minus four yards rushing and 40 total.

Meanwhile, Longview scored the first two times it touched the ball, using a newly installed quick play attack, catching the Rams off guard on several occasions.

Quarterback Llewellyn Fambles was the catalyst in each of the first two scores. The shifty, elusive 150-pounder scrambled for runs of 25 and 21 yards in a 10-play, 59-yard drive that concluded with a one-yard burst by tailback Leo McCoy with 4:58 showing on the first period clock. Henry Williams' kick was good for a 7-0 lead.

Four plays later the Lobos were on the offensive once again. It took Fambles only five plays to find pay dirt this time. He took advantage of a strong wind to connect with wingback Johnny Fuller on a 42-yard pass with one 42 ticks of the first period clock remaining.

The Rams received a golden opportunity late in the first half after recovering a Longview fumble at a Lobo 21. Middle linebacker Jeff Stone, however, picked off a Rchfield aerial on the ensuing play at the Longview 8-yard line.

John Henry Jones broke for a 54-yard scamper up the middle as the first half time elapsed, but was stopped short of a score.

The Lobos received as opportunity of their own early in the second half when one of Stone's punts was bottled and Rodney Jones was there to fall on the ball only 7 yards from the Rams goal.

Reserve tailback Thomas Cook, who registered his second consecutive 100-yard night, took the pigskin in from five yards out with 8:29 left in the third stanza. Cook also toted a ball for a two-point conversion and a 21-0 Lobo advantage.

Cook also tallied with 39 seconds left in the third canto and reserve fullback Sherman Johnson accounted for the Lobos' final touchdown with an 11-yard jaunt with 11:18 left in the contest.

Head coach Doug Cox employed 12 different ball carriers to churn out 306 yards on the ground and was able to play everyone in uniform as the Lobos posted their second shutout victory in as many games.

Richfield's two quarterbacks were dropped for 47 yards in losses while attempting to pass by the hard-charging Lobo line. The two quarterbacks finished with 4 completions in 12 attempts for 44 yards.

Longview will host Vidor next week while Richfield travels to Tyler Lee, its third straight 14-AAAA opponent. John Tyler squeaked by the Rams, 12-6, in last week's opener.
