LOBOS PRANCE PAST PASCHAL, 28-6
LONGVIEW - The Longview Lobos cranked up their "Mean Green Machine" and then proceeded to smash the Pashcal Panthers, 28-6 Friday night in Lobo Stadium.

Leo McCoy led the Lobos rushers with 92 yards in 21 carries and one touchdown. Thomas Cook galloped 55 yards on 10 carries and he scored one touchdown.

The Lobos wasted no time in scoring as they took the opening kickoff and drove 64 yards in 13 plays with Glendell Smith carrying the ball over from the one yard line. Tommy Thomas kicked the PAT to give the Lobos a 7-0 lead with 6:16 left in the first quarter.

The Panthers had a total offense of minus 10 yards in the first quarter as the mighty Lobo defense came ready to play again.

After the teams traded punts twice, the Lobos took the ball on their own 44 and marched 56 yards in 9 plays with the climax coming when Leo McCoy swept right end for six yards and a touchdown. Thomas again kicked the PAT to give the fighting Lobos a 14-0 lead with 5:18 left in the half.

The Lobos received another golden opportunity when Paschal couldn't move the ball after they had received the kickoff, and Derek Page went back to punt and fumbled the snap from center and the Lobos tackled him at Paschal 25. It took the Lobos only three plays to score when quarterback Llewellyn Fambles rolled out to his right, evaded one tackler and with another hanging on to his jersey and still another breathing down his neck, passed 21 yards to Mike Cravens for a touchdown with 1:45 left in the first half.

The Lobos received still another golden opportunity when Panther quarterback Ross Morgan fumbled and the Lobos recovered on the Paschal 39 with 1:03 left in the half.

The Lobos managed to reach the Panther 15 via a 24 yard pass from Fambles to Henry Williams. The Lobos lost the ball on the next play when Fambles made a bad pitch and the Panthers recovered on their own 17 and the Panthers managed to run one play before the half ended on which Page managed to lose nine yards when he fumbled the handoff.

The capacity crowd was given opportunities to roar for their Lobos during the first half and they didn't get a chance to rest during halftime as they were entertained by two magnificent bands and the Lobo drill team in what was an outstanding performance and the overflowing crowd gave the performance two standing ovations for their fine work.

Paschal recovered a Lobo fumble on the Longview 47 and that was the first time that the Panthers had reached the Lobo half o the field during the game. The Panthers marched in for a touchdown in six plays with Page carrying for the final ten. The run for the extra points failed and left the score at 21-6, Longview.

The Lobos wasted no time in retaliating as they took the kickoff and drove 66 yards in 14 plays with Thomas Cook circling right end for the final seven yards and the touchdown. Thomas added the extra point to make the score 28-6, Lobos.

Lobo punter Jeff Stone lifted a prefect punt that died on the Paschal nine and the Panthers managed to start that and drive to the Lobo 43 before they had to punt and it wen tout of bounds on the Lobos' 14.

Two plays later, Sophomore quarterback David Gibson's pass was intercepted by Jimmy White and returned it to the Lobo 26.

The Lobo defense pulled their belts tight and held the Panthers there and even threw them back a yard in four plays.

The Lobo offense took over and Fambles fell forward for tow yards as the game ended.

The Lobos were finally scored on, but the mighty Lobo defense allowed only 79 yards in total offense to the Panthers. The leading rusher for Paschal was Derek Page with 39 yards in 12 carries.

Longview starts District 14-AAAA play next week at Nacogdoches and the scouts were here and plenty to look at the Lobos totally dominate the game on offense and defense. Longview had 267 yards on offense and theMan Green defense shut off the Paschal attack completely.
