LOBOS SINK CLAWS INTO DRAGONS
NACOGDOCHES - Longview head coach Clint Humphreys had informed the public that he was excited about quarterback Steve Gaddis's junior year.

The 6,000 or so fans who witnessed the clash at Dragon Stadium Frida night found out why.

Gaddis, 6'0, 150-pound junior, guided the Lobos to a shutout win over Nacogdoches' Dragons in a District 14-AAAA contest.

Quarterback Gaddis and his Lobo teammates got their report cards following the game and the Lobos graded A plus. Gaddis, who became the No. 1 field general for the Lobos against Marshall's Mavericks on Friday night, Oct. 5, is 3-1-0. Under the leadership of Gaddis, the Lobos beat Marshall, 49 to 24; lost to John Tyler's Lions, 16 to 0; blasted Palestine, 48 to zip and blanked Nacogdoches, 24 to zip.

Gaddis, who plans to play basketball for the Lobos this winter, had an excellent night against the Dragons of Nacogdoches. He completed four of 11 passes (Lobos are not known as a passing ball club) for 80 yards and his longest pass was for 37 yards. Gaddis, a very coachable youngster, possesses a strong and accurate throwing arm and exhibits good leadership qualities off the field. He can also run with good quickness and balance. The Lobo coaches are very thankful for that Gaddis will be returning for the '74 football season.

Longview compiled 253 yards on the ground on 55 rushing plays. The Lobos completed five of 14 passes for 108 yards, for a net of 361 yards for the contest.

Longview's outstanding defensive unit led by linebackers Mitch Motley and Danny Majors, left tackle James Stephens and corner back Scott Cole turned in fine grades against the Dragons. Nacogdoches was held to only 98 net yards rushing and 31 passing for 129 yards. The Dragons completed three of 10 passes and had two passes picked off. The interceptions went to cornerback Scott Cole and linebacker Mitch Motley. Motley will be remembered the Dragons for a long, long time. He played by far his finest game of the '73 season.

Fullback Danny Majors, 185-pound senior, graded high on his fine blocking for tailback Mike Mock. Majors opened the holes many, many times for Mock to make the yards. Danny only carried the ball six times for 28 yards but they were timely yards to keep a drive going. Major has not had a single minus yard this season. No question about his potential. Major is going to make some college team a fine ball player.

Tailback Mike Mock, who scored all three Longview touchdowns, kicked three of three on extra points and also added a 42-yard field goal (24 points), carried the ball 27 times for a net of 152 yards for a 5.6 yards average. His longest gainer was for 33 yards.

Sophomore tailback Llewellyn Fambles was Longview's second leading rusher with 47 yards on seven tries for a 6.7 yards average. Tailback Bobby Hunter had 38 yards on five tries for 7.6 yards average.

Tight end Joe Alford, 170-pound senior, had himself a great night against the Dragons. He caught three passes fore 43 yards and his longest catch was for 17 yards. Joe is also a team leader for the Lobos. He has average speed, deceptive moves, and a very receptive pair of hands. Almost impossible to cover with single man coverage.

Ricky Watts had one catch for 37 yards and Donald Richardson pulled in one for 28 yards.
