LONGVIEW ROMPS, 27-0
DALLAS - The Longview Lobos displayed a fine running attack and a rugged defense here Friday night as they blanked the Dallas Jesuit Rangers, 27 to 0.

Longview won the toss of the coin and elected to receive but couldn't gain a first down in their initial possession and had to punt the ball away to the Rangers. The Lobos defense allowed Jesuit only three yards in three plays and Calvin Portley took a Ranger punt at his own 29 and returned it to the Lobo 40-yard line.

The Lobos took over with 8:36 remaining in the first period back Cecil Walton broke loose for 16 yards and a first down to the Jesuit 44. After a 15 yard penalty, assessed to the Rangers, Walton scampered 16 more yards to the Jesuit five yard line.

On first and five Longview was penalized for clipping at the two yard line moving the ball back to the Jesuit 17 yard line. And then on the next play Mike Mock replaced Walton at quarterback and picked up five yards to the 12 yard line of Jesuit. On the next play Walton raced seven yards to the five. Mock got one yard and then Portley took a pitch-out from Mock and went the final four yards around left end for the touchdown. The snap on the PAT was fumbled and the Lobos led 6-0 with 5:23 left in the first period of play.

The remainder of the fist quarter and the second quarter saw Longview and Dallas Jesuit penalized seven times with the Lobos receiving four of the penalties. And the first half ended with Longview leading 6-0 over Dallas Jesuit.

The Lobos struck quick in the third quarter covering 44 yards in two plays with Portley carrying around left end for 39 yards and the touchdown. The Lobos tried the same play with Portley on the PAT but came up short and led 12-0 with 9:!6 left in the third period.

The Lobos next score came when Ranger halfback, Anthony Hardin tossed up the football on a bone jarring tackle and Mock recovered for the Lobos at the Dallas Jesuit 21-yard line. Six plays later Chuck Boyd bulled over left guard from one yard out for the touchdown. Quarterback Mock hit Blake Johnson in the end zone for two points on the PAT and the Lobos led 20-0 with 3:34 left in the third quarter.

Longview's last touchdown was set up by Portley as he intercepted a Victor Lucido aerial at the Longview 48 and returned it to the Jesuit 23-yard line. Three plays later tailback Charles Robey circled right end for the final six yards and the touchdown. The extra point ice was good by Mike Boyd and Longview led 27-0 with 20 seconds remaining in the game.

The game ended, Longview 27-0 over Jesuit for the win. The Lobos will be in La Marque Friday night for a tough non-district battle starting at 8 p.m.

Defensive standouts for Longview were Converson Bush, Mike Mock, Larry Wilkins, Calvin Portley and Mark McDaniels.
