REBELS UPEND LOBOS
LONGVIEW - The Tyler Lee Rebels made Longview their fifth victim here Friday night in Lobo Stadium, 24 to 13 in a District 14-AAAA contest before a crowd around 3,500.

It was homecoming for the Lobos as they played against a former Lobo, who is head coach of the Rebels - Don Barton.

Coach Barton, who played on Longview's 1947 championship ball club, posted his third straight win over a Lobo football team. It was a victory that Barton and his Rebels enjoyed.

Lee is now 5-3-1 for the season and 3-2-0 in district play. The Lobos of Coach Clint Humphreys are 3-4-1 for the season and 2-3-0 in loop action. The Lobos must face mighty Texarkana here next Friday in a district game.

Halfback Sam Ahn, 145-pound senior, who was the leading gainer for the Rebels with 95 yards on 11 tries, scored Tyler Lee's second touchdown of the night on a 48-yard run over right tackle in the second quarter. Ahn also scored in the fourth quarter on a five-yard run over left guard. Ahn isn't really big enough to play AAAA football. However, don't tell this youngster. He is quick and fast.

Tyler Lee got the first of many breaks in the contest when Longview fullback James Williams fumbled the ball on the Lobo 37-yard line and Wharton Foster covered the ball for Lee. On the second play from the 33, halfback Edwill Rollins went to the 25 for eight yards and a first down. However, the Lobos were charged with a personal penalty that moved the ball to the 13. From the 13, the eels were charged with a five yard penalty back tot eh 18 for too much time. Then from the 18, quarterback Brad Harvey went to the air. However, the officials ruled pass interference against the Lobos and moved the ball to the nine-yard line. Three plays later fullback Wharton Foster went over from the left tackle from five yards out for the touchdown with 5:25 left in the first quarter. Steve Wilhire kicked the extra point and Lee led, 7-0.

Lee's second touchdown of the night came when halfback Sam Ahn took a handoff from quarterback Harvey and sailed 48 yards for the touchdown over right guard with 7:12 left in the second quarter. Wilhite again did the honors, 14-0. The touchdown was set up after Eddie Starks returned a Jeb Blount punt from the Lee 29 to the Lee 43.

Mr. Wilhite booted a 31-yard field goal with 7:24 left in the third quarter to give the Rebels a 17-0 lead. The field goal was set up when Mike Johnson intercepted a quarterback Jeb Blount pass at the Lobo 38 and returned it to the 30 yard line. Lee was stopped at the 14 and the Rebels elected to go for the field goal.

Tailback Chuck Boyd scored for the Lobos from the one over left guard with 2:38 remaining in the third quarter. Blount kicked the extra appoint, 17 to 7. The Lobos started the drive at the Lobo 24 yard line. On first down, Blount hit Charles Fagan on a 13-yard bomb. Then Mr. Blount found Aaron Davis open for another 13-yard pass. Following Mr. Davis' catch the Rebels were given a 15 yard penalty that moved the ball to the Lee 31. Seven plays later, Chuck Boyd scored.

Halfback Ahn scored from the five yard line with 11:56 remaining in they game for the Rebels. Wilhite again kicked the extra point, 24-7. The drive started at the Lee 48 yard line. A big gainer was a 36-yard pass from quarterback Harvey to end Eddie Starks from the 48 to the 16 of the Lobos. Five plays later, Ahn scored.

Longview's final touchdown of the night came on a 42-yard pass to Charles Fagan from quarterback Blount with 1:15 left in the game. Blount's pass for 2-pointer failed. Blount and the Lobos started the drive at their own four yard line after Lee the ball at the four following a punt by Wilhite. On the first play, Blount passed to Fagan on a play that covered 38 yards. His third pass in the drive covered 10 yards to Chuck Boyd and the fourth pas was to Fagan for 11 to the 42 of Lee. On first down at the 42, Blount stepped bad and sailed the bomb into Fagan's arms.
