LONGVIEW SINKS PALESTINE 41-7
LONGVIEW - In lieu of a rabbit, somebody pulled a Lobo out of a hat here Friday night, but anyway, he ran like a rabbit.

Fleet Chuck Boyd, 160-pound junior, set the pace as Longview's Lobo scored touchdowns in the first, second and fourth quarters to beat the Palestine Wildcats, 41 to 7.

Boyd personally racked up 24 times for 117 yards and chipped in a pair of touchdowns to boot.

The Lobos hogged the ball the second half. Palestine only ran seven plays in the third quarter and 14 plays in the fourth quarter. It was all Longview in the second half. The way coach Clint Humphreys and his staff like it.

The Longview team looked a lot sharper here in this District 14-AAAA contest. The offensive line blocked well and the backs ran well. This is the kind of ball the Lobos can win games with.

The Lobos went to the dressing room at half leading, 13 to 7. The first half was a real close battle. However, the Lobos received several costly penalties in the third quarter that stopped two drives. But never-the-less the Lobos looked great.

The Lobos are still much in the District 14-AAAA race with the win. They are now 2-1-0 and are 3-2-1 for the season. Palestine, who was a pre-season pick to win the crown, is now 0-3-0 in loop play and 2-4-0 for the season.

Longview will be at Nacogdoches next Friday night for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff.

Longview put the first six points on the board when speedster Chuck Boyd went over left side of the line from four yards out with 426 left in the first quarter. Mike mock's extra point kick was good, 7-0. The drive started on the Palestine 38 yards line. Six plays and a three yard penalty against Palestine moved the ball to the Wildcats' four. On second and four, Boyd went over for the touchdown.

Split end Keith Tanner scored Palestine's lone touchdown on a 23 yard run around right end on a pitch-out from quarterback Mike Yeager. David George kicked the extra point to tie the game at 7-7 with 11:52 left in the second quarter. The drive covered 66 yards and took eight plays.

Boyd's second touchdown came with 5:37 left in the second quarter when he scored from five yards out over right tackle. Mock's kick went to the left of the crossbar, 13 to 7.

Fullback David Hiett scored for the Lobos on a 11-yard dash over left side of the line with 11:38 left in the fourth quarter. Quarterback Jeb Blount's pass to Keith Judy for the two-point conversion was good, 21 to 7. The drive started on the Palestine 44 yard line. It took only five plays for the Lobos to score. Boyd had runs of 6, 5 and 10 yards in the drive. Hiett had a 12 and his 11 for the touchdown.

Calvin Portley scored for Longview on a 34-yard run with 7:30 left in the game. Mock's kick was blocked, 27 to 7. The Lobos started on Palestine's 34 yard line after David George faked a punt and ran on fourth down play. He stopped at the 34 from the 37 yard line of Palestine. On the first play, Portley scored.

Reserve quarterback Steve Whitehurst passed to Blake Johnson for another Lobo touchdown with 5:26 remaining in the game. The pass covered 12 yards. Mock's kick was good, 34 to 7. The touchdown was set up when Calvin Portley intercepted a pass from quarterback Yeager at the Palestine 39 yards line. In seven plays the Lobos scored.

Fullback James Williams turned on the speed and power and plowed over the Wildcats for the final touchdown of the night from 12 yards out with 1:32 left in the game. Jeb Blount kicked the extra point, 41-7. The touchdown was set up when quarterback Al Pike fumbled the ball and it was recovered by a host of Lobos at the Palestine 20 yard line with 1:44 left in the game. On the first play, tailback Bobby Hunter went to the 12 yard line for a gain of eight and then Williams went the distance for the touchdown.
