TWO GIBSON TOUCHDOWNS PACE 27-7 LOBO WIN
GRAND PRAIRIE - Longview can be happy about Bill Gibson, its 180 pound senior. The Lobos can especially be happy about his hands.

Saturday night, in a country football clash in the Gopher Bowl, the slight Lobos used these hands to help achieve - and achievement it was - a 27 to 7 victory over Grand Prairie before a crowd of around 4,500 on a hot humid night.

Gibson caught three passes for 43 yards and scored 2 touchdowns - his first coming in the first quarter on a 9-yard pass from quarterback Ronnie Davis and his second in the third quarter on a 22-yard pass.

Gibson also turned in a great job in the punting department to keep the Gophers in trouble all night.

Longview won the toss and elected to receive. The Lobos started their first touchdown drive on their own 49 yard line.

Longview went 9 plays and Davis hit end Bill Gibson in the end zone with a pass that covered 9 yards for the six points with 8:11 togo in the first quarter. Jeb Blount's kick for PAT was good and the Lobos had a 7-0 lead.

However, Grand Prairie came right back in 11 plays with 68 yards to score.

Halfback Gary Bartel went over from the 6 yards line for the touchdown. Bill Liner's kick for the extra point was good and tied the game at 7-7 with 3:44 left in the first quarter.

Longview put their second touchdown on the scoreboard in the second quarter when tailback James Lomax scored from four yards out with 6:44 left in the second period. Blount's kick was blocked and the Lobos had to settle for a 13-7 lead. Longview went 46 yards in 10 plays for the touchdown.

Henry Jackson recovered a Grand Prairie fumble in the third quarter with 11:44 on the clock to set up the third touchdown for Longview won the Gopher 28-yard line. On third down from the 22, quarterback Davis sailed the pigskin into the arms of end Bill Gibson in the right end zone for the touchdown with 10:29 left in the third quarter. In three plays the Lobos had a 19-7 lead. Blount's kick was good, 20-7.

Sophomore tailback Chuck Boyd put the Lobos back into scoring position when he rushed from the 14 to the 1. Reserve quarterback Jeb Blount scored from the one with 33 seconds left in the game. Blount added the extra point to make it 27-7.

The Lobo defensive unit turned in an excellent job with boys like Kent Wilson, Don Peek, Bill Williams and Keith Judy.
