COLEY STARS IN LONGVIEW VICTORY
LONGVIEW - If you thought the London blitz was something back in World War II, you should have seen the bombs falling in Lobo Stadium Saturday night.

The excellent passing of quarterback Ronnie F. Davis, the great passing catch of ends Joe Jordan, Jimmy Griffin and Gibson, and the superior running-catching by tailback Alton Coley were too much for Marshall Pemberton's Panthers as the Lobos of Coach Tommy Hudsepth defeated the Panthers, 51-6, in a District 13-AAAA contest.

Davis, the Lobo gunner, fire 6 completions of 7 attempts. He passed for 133 yards. Back-up field general Ronald Cibulka completed three of 7 passes for 47 yards.

The victory gives the Lobos a 5-3-0 season mark and a 3-3-0 in district play. Pemberton is 2-6-0 for the season and 1-6-0 in loop action.

The Lobos will be at Lufkin on Friday night for another district clash with the Panthers at 7:30. Lufkin edge Marshall's Mavericks, 20 to 14, Friday night at Marshall.

Tailback Coley, who saw lots of action in the first half and only played a limited amount in the fourth quarter, carried the ball 13 times for a net of 47 yards. Fullback Rodney Cox toted the ball four times for 53 yards and Brad Moore made 36 yards on 11 tries.

Scoring got underway when Corwyn Bush crashed into Graylon Smith of the Panthers, who was attempting to skirt left end on the first play from scrimmage and knocked the ball loose. Bush then leaped on the ball for a Lobo first down on the 28 yard line of Pemberton.

Eight plays later the Lobos were stymied at the 12 yard line of Pemberton and had to settle for a beautiful 27-yard field goal by Jimmy Hill with 9:07 left in the initial period.

Driving from their own 35 yard line, the Lobos fumbled on the Panthers 11 yard line, but recovered on the next play at the Pemberton 27. Five plays later Alton Coley skirted right end for ten yards and a touchdown. Jimmy Hill booted the extra point and the Lobos were gone for good with 3:26 left in the first period, 10 to 0.

After a fumble recovery at the Pemberton 47 yard line, the Lobos set their sights toward the promised land once again. After a 38-yard pass from quarterback Ronnie Davis to Alton Coley to the Pemberton three yard line, the Lobos were i scoring position. Davis kept twice, the touchdown being from one yard out, and the Lobos had more than enough points for the victory. Jimmy Hill once again put his toe to work and the Lobos were out front 17 to 0 with 1:40 left in the first quarter.

With 10:38 left in the first half the Lobo first string offensive unit put things out of reach completely when Davis kept and went wide to the right for four yards and the third Lobo touchdown. Hill added the point after and the Lobos were up front 24 to 0.

The remainder of the first half was a defensive battle as Lobo reserve came on to try their hand.

However, the second half was a repeat of the first, with even Lobo reserves dominating the Panthers. However, it was the first team offensive unit that did the damage with the fourth touchdown of the evening with 1:47 left in the third quarter.

Quarterback Ronnie Davis threaded the needle between two Pemberton defenders to connect with Bill Gibson for a 20-yard touchdown pass. The try for the extra point by Hill was good and the score up to 31 to 0.

Joseph Rattler did the next scoring from two yards out for the Lobos with 11:55 left in the game. Ronnie Davis booted the extra point. Quarterback Ronald Cibulka then tried his hand in the passing department by chunking one to Bob Gilchrist for 25 yards and a touchdown with 1:57 left in the game. Davis' try for the extra point failed.

The last Lobo touchdown of the game came on a tremendous pass interception by linebacker Billy Medlin. Panthers quarterback Gale Johnson lofted a long pass from his own 25-yard line to the Lobo 48, only to have Medlin come up with it and head back down the field, following his blockers like a pro. At the 30 yard line of Pemberton, he cut across the field, broke several tackles and headed for the end zone. He stomped over the last Pemberton tacklers at the three yard line and went into the end zone standing up. Davis' kick was good for the point after and the Lobos had a 51 to 0 lead with 1:36 left.

Pemberton took the kickoff on their own 38 yard line and started goalward for their lone score of the night. Gale Johnson passed to Charlie Hooper at the buzzer from 22 yards out for the score. Hooper made a beautiful diving catch between two Lobo defenders for the pigskin.

The run for two pints was no good and the Lobos had packed away their fifth victory of the season, 51 to 6.
