| LONGVIEW - By a score of 20 to 6 Longview yesterday won from Mineola High one of the hardest game it has played this season and the high school boys look confident that when they meet Texarkana High at Texarkana next Saturday they will win the game. Yesterday's game was featured by hard fighting from the start and a surprise in the last half when Mineola stared a lot of overhead play.
In the first quarter Mineola won the toss and Longview received and kicked to Mineola. Mineola returned the ball with a 15 yard gain. Mineola was forced to kick on its 35 yard line. Longview got the ball and ran it to Mineola's 2 yard line and lost it on a fumble. Mineola kicked from its 35 yard line. Longview got the ball and ran it back for a touchdown. McCreary carrying it but failing to kick goal. Mineola received the ball on its 20 yard line and made about 10 yards on a kick off, making one first down. The quarter ended with the ball in Mineola's possession. In the second quarter Mineola was forced to kick once and Longview lost the ball on a fumbled punt. Mineola then carried the ball to Longview's 1 yard line and Longview held them for three downs and on the fourth down. Mineola fumbled and one of Mineola's men got the ball and fell across the line for a touchdown and tried to kick a field goal but failed. Mineola then kicked to Longview. Longview got the ball on the 30 yard line, running it back to 10 yards. Kelly went around right end for about 10 yards. On a trick pass, Kelly to Heinemann, Longview gained about 35 yards. Kelly slipped down the right sideline for 17 yards. Then after severe line bucking McCreary carried the ball over for another touchdown and Longview took nearly of Mineola's men across with them on furious touchdown. McCreary for Longview's kicked the goal. The score was then 13 to 6. Longview then kicked to Mineola and Mineola returned the ball to the 30 yard line and by fast passing and end running managed to get the ball to Longview's 20 yard line but the Longview defense held them there. The ball went over to Longview. Then by a series of runs and passes Longview took the ball to Mineola's 23 yard line. McHaney went through the line for 20 yards and McCreary bucked over the line for a touchdown. McCreary kicked goal ending the first half. In the last half, no scoring was done by either side. McCreary intercepted a pass from Mineola and ran 90 yards but the ball was declared dead and brought back. This half was marked by Mineola's over head playing. |
