SCOTS WALLOP LOBOS, 33-14
DALLAS - Mighty Highland Park toyed with Longview Friday night like a cat with a mouse, emerging easily with a 33-14 victory before easily-pleased fans in Highlander Stadium here Friday night.

The Scots seemed to have little difficulty in producing winning football teams. They just played ball control and raced up five touchdowns for their fourth victory of the season. They now have a 4-1-0 record.

The Lobos, on the opening kickoff, showed lots of fire as they scored the first touchdown of the night with 9:32 left on the clock in the first quarter.

Whatever the Lobos had which inspired some folks to think Longview could beat the Scots was left at home. It was quite evident after the Scots tied the game up at 7-7 with 4:37 left in the first quarter, the Scots were going to win this game. The Scots just do not make mistakes and they just gain yards and kill the clock in the end zone.

Highland Park played so well they did not punt once in the contest. Longview punted twice for 64 yards.

The Lobos started like a house fire. Jimmy Merritt kicks off tot he Lobos and David Majors took the ball on the Lobo 8 yard line and returned to the 31.

From the 31, the Lobos looked like a million-dollar ball club. On the first try, Majors carried to the 34. Then quarterback Steve Judy, on a keeper, plowed to the 39 for a gain of five. Then fullback Joe Griffin went to the 43 of Longview for a first down.

On the next play from the Lobo 43, Rodney Hill was stopped for no gain. Then out of the blue, quarterback Steve Jury turned and twisted his way through several would-be tacklers and sprinted 57 yards untouched or a touchdown with 9:32 left on the clock. The touchdown drive covered 69 yards for 5 plays.

Keith Parker's kicks as perfect and the Lobos led 7-0.

Ralph Blount kicked off to the Scots and Dennis Rushing returned to the 36 of Highland Park from the 6 yard line. In nine plays, the Scots scored their first of five touchdowns. Quarterback Jim Crosland sailed a bullet into the arms of wingback Clyde Rote (his father played for SMU some 17 years ago, you know) for a 36 yard touchdown pass with 4:37 left on the clock in the first quarter Jimmy Merritt's kicks as good and the Scots tied the game up. The touchdown drive covered 64 yards and 3 first downs in nine plays.

Halfback Dennis Rushing scored the Scot's second touchdown of the night on a 4 yard run plunge. Merritt's kicks as blocked by a great defensive play from Danny Bogue. The touchdown drive started on the 38 yard line of Highland Park. the Scots just couldn't be stopped by the Lobo defensive wall. Highland Park ran the ball at left and right end at will.

With 5:46 left in the second quarter Crosland scored the third touchdown of the night from the 11 yard line. Halfback Larry Loper's pass for the conversion was knocked down by defensive star Newton. However, the Scots had a 19-7 lead. This touchdown covered 66 yards in 7 plays.

The Scots took the kickoff at the start of the third quarter and just couldn't be stopped by the Lobos. The Highland Park club started moving from their own 21 yard line. They covered 79 yards in 19 plays and 7 first downs before halfback Larry Loper scored the touchdown from the 2-yard line with 2:06 left on the scoreboard. Merritt's kick again was good, 26-7.

Rodney Hill of Longview scored the Lobos' final touchdown with 9:12 left on the scoreboard on a one yard run around the right guard. Quarterback Judy took the pigskin on the 32 yard line of Longview and marched for the touchdown. The big gainer came when Judy hit end Cecil Newton on a 42 yard pass from the 29 to the 29 of Highland Park. Eight plays later the Lobos scored when Hill plowed over. Parker's kick was good, 26-14.

Quarterback Crosland scored the final touchdown of the night on a one-yard keeper with 3:03 left in the game. Merritt's kick was good, 33-14. Highland Park started the drive after taking the kickoff from Ralph Blount's foot on the 34 yard line. Without much trouble from the Lobo defense, the Scots clicked on down the field with the running of Rush Cone and Dennis Rushing.
