LONGVIEW AND ARLINGTON PLAY SCORELESS TIE
ARLINGTON - In a wild eyed throbbing thriller that left around 6,000 fans limp, inspired Arlington High Colts held the 5th ranked Class 4A Lobos scoreless in a non-league game here Friday night in Arlington State College Memorial Stadium.

For the record, the game ended 0-0. Some unbelievable offensive fireworks at the defensive show were staged.

The Colts last week defeated North Side of Fort Worth, 8-6, and the Lobos racked up a 27-0 victory over Dallas Adamson in the season opener.

Due to the wet turf, the Lobos fumbled the pigskin three times and the Colts recovered all of them. The Colts fumbled six times and the Lobos recovered only three. The Lobos missed their big chance to score in the second quarter of this contest.

The colts punter Leon Nephew threw the ball on fourth down from the Arlington 46 and the ball fell into the arms of defensive halfback Ronnie Bagley. However, Bagley fumbled the ball and the Colts recovered the football on the Lobo 23.

Three plays later quarterback Eddie Horton fumbled the ball and defensive standout Mike McMahon recovered the loose ball on the 10 yard line. The Lobos gave their offensive machine a good oiling and set sail to the goal line with Steve Judy barking the signals. On the first play Judy went off left tackle and plowed to the 17, then tailback Rodney Hill went to the 35 for a gain of 18 yards. Fullback Larry Gregg showed his power as he carried the ball to the 43 yard line and then Judy added five yards to the Lobo 48 yard line.

From the 48, Hill jumped over two of the tacklers for a gain of one and then Judy added 22 yards to the Arlington 27 yard line.

With two minutes remaining on the clock before halftime, the Lobos moved the ball to the 26 yard line.

Quarterback Judy hit end Cecil Newton with a 12 yard bomb to the 14 yard line for a first down.

From the 14, the ace field general pushed his way through a powerful defensive wall before he was nailed to the cross. On the next try, Judy carried for only 2. Then he took the ball and went to the 3 yard line with a first down 25 seconds left on the clock.

It's first down and the Lobos needed three for a touchdown. The giant clock went on ticking as Hill pushed his way to the 2 yard line and about that time the gun went off to end the second quarter.

The Colts started their machine going in the 4th quarter and had the ball on the Lobo 34 yard line before halfback Johnny Jernigan fumbled the ball on the 33 and Longview's Dusty Pittinger covered the ball.

The Lobos took on their own 33 and moved like a house afire. However it did not last as wingback David Majors fumbled the ball on the 24 yard line of Arlington when he was hit by a host of tacklers, with 7 minutes left in the contest. The big gainer in the march before the fumble was made by fancy stepper, Rodney Hill, as he twisted around left end for 20 yards.

The Colts took over on the 24 yard line and it was too much fullback Guy Snodgrass and halfback Tim Miller for the Lobos. With 13 plays the Colts were off the Lobo 22 yard line. However, quarterback Horton started to pass and two of his bombs were over the head of the receivers. However, the 3rd bomb hit right end Bill Floyd for a gain to the 7 yard line. However, an illegal receiver downfield cost the Colts 15 yards and the ball was placed at the 37 yard line.

Quarterback Horton was stopped for losses back to the 48 yard line of Arlington on 2 plays for a loss of 15 yards and the ball went over to the Lobos.

From the 48 of Arlington the Lobos went to the air 4 times and all were incomplete as the receivers could not catch the pigskin and again the clock ran out on the Lobos resulting in a scoreless tie.
