LONGVIEW HIGH DEFEATS PITTSBURG
LONGVIEW - By a score of 13 to 6, the Longview High football team yesterday won the first game of the season from the Pittsburg High team in a hotly contested session at Fair Park.

Pittsburg won the toss and Longview received the kick off on the 15 yard line, driving it to the 30 yard line. The first quarter was marked by frequently squabbling on both sides with the ball in Pittsburg territory most of the time.

Longview made the first down several times in the first quarter, which ended with Longview possessing the ball on the 4 yard line.

The second quarter was equally as warm. McHaney went through the line for two yards when time was called for Pittsburg when Tarkington of the Pittsburg team sustained a simple factor of the right leg and ankle in a smash with McHaney.

On the third down, one yard was gained by Longview and on fourth down the ball was carried across the line by McCreary after fierce line plunging. The quarter ended with a score of 6 to 0 in favor of Longview.

The third quarter was characterized by stubborn defensive work on both side, the ball being in the center of the field most of the time until near the end of the quarter when fumbling of a punt by Longview enabled the Pittsburg players to fall on the ball, carrying it across Longview's line giving Pittsburg 6 points. The ball was brought to the 20 yard line and a successful field drive kick by McCreary ended the quarter bringing he score 7 to 6 in favor of Longview.

In the fourth quarter determination on the part of Longview players to score was opposed by good defensive playing on the part of Pittsburg until the last minute of the play when a series of line bucking and runs placed Longview on Pittsburg's 1 yard line with the first down.

From this point, McCreary bucked through the line again for a touchdown when the whistle blew just as the play was completed, bringing the score up to Longview 13 and Pittsburg 6.
