LONGVIEW FORFEITS TILT TO NACOGDOCHES
LONGVIEW - The Longview Lobos had a record of two losses in district 4-AAA Wednesday after they forfeited their only win because of an overage player that was used.

Billy Wayne Dodson, a wingback, was 20, although school records indicted he was only 18. The deception was discovered when Dodson's name appeared as one of those summoned for a pre-draft physical.

Longview school Superintendent R.E. Slayton, who also is chairman of the district executive committee, immediately forfeited the Lobos' only conference win, a 39 to 0 victory over Nacogdoches, and said Dodson would not play in any other games.

Members of the district executive committee, who learned of Dodson's ineligibility from Slayton, said no other action would be taken.

Dodson's mother said she changed the birth certificate he used at school after he missed two years of school in grammar school.

LONGVIEW - The Longview Lobos uncovered a secret offensive weapon here Friday night as they opened the District 4-AAA race before a crowd of 3,000 fans by trouncing the Nacogdoches Dragons, 39 to 0.

Quarterback George Myers, who didn't play football last year and wasn't even on the Longview roster at the start of the present campaign, unlimbered a shotgun for a passing arm and literally pitched Coach Gean Hale's Dragons into submission with a blistering aerial art tack that scored almost as many points in the conference opener alone as the Longview eleven had been able to tally in the five previous games combined.

After having one touchdown pass called back by a penalty in the first quarter and another dropped by the receiver on the goal line, Myers went to work in earnest in the second period and passed for three touchdowns in such rapid succession that the Lobos had the decision safely tucked away before most of the fans settled back in their seats after Longview's first score.

The stands gave the unheralded Myers a tremendous ovation as he left the field after passing for Longview's third touchdown just before the end of the half.

Coach Swede Dees flooded the Longview line up with reserves in the second half, but the offense of the Lobos rolled on almost unchecked as tailback Robert Bayliss took over the spotlight with his slashing drives over tackle and around end to pace Longview to a pair of touchdowns in the third period and another in the fourth to conclude the scoring.

The outclassed Nacogdoches eleven, suffering its fifth setback of the campaign against one victory, was never able to seriously threaten. The deepest penetration the Dragons were able to muster reached only to Longview's 24-yard stripe and that came late in the contest when Lobo reserves had completely taken over.

In addition to Myers and Bayliss the Lobos had all sorts of others offensive stars. One of them was speedy little Billy Wayne Dodson, who scored two touchdowns on passes from Myers, and another was James Thorpe, who was a throne in the side of the Dragons all night as he set up two touchdowns for the Lobos by intercepting a pass and recovering a fumble.

End Jerry Barnes was a standout for Longview won both offense and defense. He intercepted one Nacogdoches pass that led to the Lobos' first touchdown, kicked two extra points and scored one touchdown himself.

Center Boggs Moore played a terrific defensive game for Longview, breaking through continually to smear one Nacogdoches play after another.

Longview made its first spring gesture late in the initial period when tailback Bobby Crawford intercepted Norman Baker's pass over his shoulder and returned it to the Dragons' 38-yard stripe. Myers immediately fired a touchdown pass to Dodson, but it was nullified by an offside penalty and the first period ended 0-0.

In the second quarter, however, the fireworks began. Barnes intercepted Baker's pass on the Nacogdoches 34-yard stripe to start things. Myers hit Barnes with an 11-yard pass for a first down and Bayliss scampered around right end for 11 yards more and another first down on the 12. Thrope barged down to the five, from where Myers passed to Barnes for a touchdown. Phil Prince slapped down Barnes' placement kick on the try for extra point, leaving Longview with a 6 to 0 margin.

Anoter intercepted pass led to Longview's second touchdown when Thorpe pulled down Bakers' aerial and raced it back 45 yards down the sidelines to the Dragons' 30. Thorpe almost went the whole route but right at the last second Baker, the only man with a chance to stop him, knocked Thorpe out of bounds. Thorpe spanked left tackle for five sand then Myers warmed up against. He laced 20-yard pass to Dodson, who took it on the five and sprinted across into the end zone, Barnes converted from placement and Longview went ahead, 13 to 0.

It took Longview exactly 50 seconds, including the kickoff, to score its third counter and for the third straight time the score was set up by an intercepted pass. This time it was Danny Chadwick who intercepted Baker's heave on the Nacogodches 19-yard stripe. On the first play after the interception Myers calmly fired a button-hook pass to Dodson, who took it on the nine and sauntered across the goal line unmolested. Barnes converted from placement to put the Lobos ahead at the half, 20 to 0.

Longview lost no time in scoring again as soon as the second half opened. Thorpe recovered a Nacogdoches fumble on the kickoff on the Dragons' 14-yard stripe and it required the Lobos only five plays to score after two offside penalties with Bayliss plowed over right tackle from the one-foot line to reach pay dirt. Crawford's kick on the try for extra point was wide, leaving the Lobos in front 26 to 0.

End Joe Bob Casey set the stage for another Longview touchdown before the end of the third quarter when he ripped through to block Bob Fowler's kick and recovered it on the Dragons' 18-yard line. Four plays later Thorpe slashed over right tackle for Longview's fifth marker and Crawford converted to push the Lobos in front, 33 to 0, as the period ended.

The winners' last touchdown came early in the final quarter. Bill Ferguson returned a punt 15 yards to the Nacogdoches 20-yard stripe an a moment later Bayliss whipped a 17-yard pass to Casey in the end zone for the score. Casey made a magnificent leaping catch of the pass like an outfielder snaring a line driver of his shoulder. Duke Braselton blocked Myers' placement kick on the try for extra point.
