LOBOS END SEASON WITH 39-7 VICTORY OVER BEARS
GLADEWATER - The Longview Lobos ran up their largest score of the season over a totally outclassed Gladewater eleven in their annual Thanksgiving day classic, to emerge on the long end of a 39-7 score before 3,000 fans at Bear Stadium.

With Bobby Dill, Joe Young and Bobby Collier starring in the last game of the season, the Green and White found little opposition in the hapless Bear eleven which has been on the short end of a tremendous scores on various occasions during the regular season.

George Numsen, 206 pound left tackle for the Longview aggregation, stiffened on a broken leg in the first play of the game, and was removed to a local hospital where his condition was described as "good."

Joltin' Joe Young lived up to his reputation as an outstanding candidate for district honors by pacing the Lobo scoring attack with three touchdowns. The outstanding run of the game was turned in by Bobby dill however, as he took the opening kickoff at the start of the second half on his own 15 yards line, and ran it all the way back for an 85 yard touchdown run. It was easily the best offensive play pulled by the East North eleven this year, and served as a fitting climax to a season which saw the Lobos wind up in second place in the district standings.

Longview lost little time in scoring their first six pointer. After Bobby Collier, who was a tower of strength on defense, kicked off to Stokes who returned to his own 39, the Bears gained two yards in three tries. Wesley Sullivan took Stokes' punt on the Lobo 41 and was stopped dead. Young, Dill and Sullivan pushed over for a first down, then Rogerson ripped off 21 yards on a smash off tackle. Young made it another first down on the home teams' 24, before Dill completed the first of eight successful passes tried in the first half. Rogerson was on the receiving end on the 17 yard line.

Dill then skirted right end for a first down to the five yard stripe. After Dill carried down to the one on a quarterback sneak, Joltin' Joe crashed over Bobby Collier's position for the score. Hibben's kick was no good.

The Bears threw a pass on the first play after receiving the Lobo kick and Dill intercepted on the enemy's 37. Bobby jack pitched to Rogerson for a gain of 22 yards on the Bear 18, then Rogerson picks up four on a push through center. Young made it a first down on the Bear 10, then Dill lost 2. On the next play, Dill connected with a perfect touchdown heave to Algee Callahan. Collier failed to convert, and Longview led 12-0 at the end of the first quarter.

Gladewater kicked on the first play of the second period, and Sturdevant, who was also making a farewell appearance long with Hibben, Moore and the injured Attaway, returned 23 yards to the opponent's 30. Dill was smeared for a 12 yard loss on an attempted pass play, and Young kicked out of bounds on the Bear 27. Ben Moore knocked down three pass attempts, and Gladewater kicked. Dill ran it back 10 yards to the Lobo 40. Bobby Jack completed three straight passes following a 15 yard penalty against Gladewater for unnecessary roughness to give the Lobos the ball on the Bear 9 yard-line. Young jolted over on the first try and Longview went ahead 18-0 with two minutes remaining.

Collier kicked, and Gladewater was unable to penetrate that big Longview forward wall which was clicking with Pakenham, the Callahan brothers, White, Johnson and the remarkable Collier. Dill dashed 18 yards down to the Orange 37, and followed this up with completed passes to Johnny Callahan, Sullivan, Algee Callahan and Sullivan again for the final touchdown of the first half. Hibben converted and that made it 25-0 at the break.

Longview lost little time in scoring at the start of the second half, as Bobby Dill, who was easily the standout back of the game, took Christian's second half kickoff on his own 15, reversed sharply to his left, picked up blockers, turned quickly to midfield and cut for the sidelines to travel the entire 85 yards for the score. Hibben made good on the try from placement, and Longview began to substitute freely.

They wound up the scoring parade a few minutes later when Joe Young scored his third touchdown of the afternoon after Dill had brought the ball down to the three yard marker on a series of end runs. Once more the dependable toe of Ken Hibben was able to account of the point, and the second and third stringers took over.

Gladewater march 40 yards on a 15 yard penalty and a10 yard pass interference play to set up their only score of the day. Stewart bucked over from the 2-yard line and Free converted to save the Bears the embarrassment of a shutout.

The Green and White were hitting all cylinders Thursday afternoon, and wound up their season in great fashion. The Gladewater threat that they would upset the Lobos never had a chance to materialize, and it wasn't until the "B" squad entered the game that they were able to push across a score.
