WOLF PACK UPSETS WAXAHACHIE
LONGVIEW - Longview High School's Lobos rose majestically to the heights in a hard fought, well played game against a willing team from Waxahachie at the city stadium Friday night, and when the smoke of battle had cleared, they emerged victorious by a 21-0 score.

After being held to a standstill in the first period, the Lobos clicked for a quick touchdown on the strength of some nifty running by Bobby Dill and jolting Joe Young. The visitors kicked off to start the ball rolling and Longview chalked up three first downs in succession before yielding on the Indian 25.

After a Hachie rally was stopped short on the Lobo 32, the Green and White returned to the visitors 45, where an intercepted pass ended their spree. Waxahachie carried dow to the local 8 where the Lobos held for downs. Joe Young kicked 60 yards to the Waxahachie 40 as the quarter ended. Glenn Johnston made a beautiful one-handed tackle of Weatherby, the Waxahachie safety man as he tried to return the punt.

The Ellis county eleven ran the ball right back up the field to the Longview 20 where that powerful Lobo forward wall led by Numsen, Broussard and Hibben held for downs. Joe Young quick kicked from his own 10 to the Indian 35 where Weatherby fumbled and Johnny Rogerson recovered for Longview.

After Rogerson failed to make it a first down, Bobby Dill scooted around his own right end for a first down on the Waxahachie 3-yard maker - a gain of 22 yards. On the the next play, Dillon went over on a quarterback sneak. his pass to Callahan was good for the point and Longview led 7-0 at the half.

It was evident that the visitors were determined in the third period, but this was strictly Longview's night to shine.

Bob Broussard kicked as Weatherby who took the ball on his own 2 and raced back 23 yards to the 25. After Boatman quick kicked to the local 33, the Lobos started a sustained drive which carried them over for a touchdown. The effort was highlight by a 55-yard prance by Bobby Dill, who started around the end, cut back through tackle and shot down the middle to the Waxahachie 4-yard line. It was one of the nicest runs seen on the local grid this season.

On the next play from scrimmage, Dill handed the oval to Joe Young who went through a big hole which was opened for him by Attaway and Johnston. Broussard's kick was right down the middle and Longview led 14-0.

The Indians came back strong after that and threatened to score, as a penalty again the Lobos for unnecessary roughness set them back to their own 28-yard line, but the rally was stopped by Buddy Attaway who intercepted one of Stollenwerk's aerials to kill the threat. Longview had the ball on the Indian 27 when the third quarter finished.

Moore was able to make it a first down for the Green and White on the Waxahachie 19 on a crash through guard, then Dill carried around end for a gain to the 14. A series of line smashes by Sullivan, Young, Dill and Moore brought the ball down to the 3-yard line where young bulled his way over for the score. Numsen place kicked the extra point, and that finished the scoring for the night.

After the third Longview score, Shotwell substituted freely, and the last three minutes of the game was played almost entirely with second stringers.

The Longview aerial defense has improved 100 percent over what it was against Port Arthur, and Buddy Attaway in particular has been snagging enemy aerials with increasing regularity. Howard White continued to play a great game at left end while filling in for the injured Algee Callahan and Broussard is a capable fill in for Bobby Collier who is still bothered with badly bruised knee.

In all, the Lobos shaped up to be a really good ball club and their return to conference competition is being awaited with anxiety by local fans. Their next gains finds them playing host to Tyler a week from Friday. There is an open date next Friday night, and the boys will be able to rest up a bit before taking on the powerful Smith county contenders.

It's hard to single out anybody and call him a star, but all due recognition should go to Dill, Young, Johnston, Hibber, and Callahan. Still you can't overlook Sullivan, White, Attaway, Broussard, Numsen and Rogerson.
