LONGVIEW STACKS UP 38-6 VICTORY OVER TIGERS
TEXARKANA - A potentially great Longview Lobo football team proved their worth Friday night when they exploded for six touchdowns and a pair of conversions to completely smother a favored Texarkana eleven by the astounding score of 38-6. It was Longview all the way, and except for one quick touchdown burst in the second half, the Tigers were never in the ball game.

Longview lost little time getting their first score. Bobby Collier, standout Lobo guard, kicked off to start the game rolling, and the Tigers punted after three line plays failed to gain. On the first play from scrimmage, Bobby Dill, who was one of Longview's bright stars Friday night, spotted 50 yards to the Texarkana 20, where three line plays failed to make a first down, and the home club took over.

After a series of running plays there were stopped cold by that fast charging Lobo line, the Tigers kicked to their own 45 where Dill return it 15 yards to the enemy 30. A Dill to Algee Callahan pass netted 12 yards, then Bobby faded to the 30 and shot another aerial to the same Callahan for a touchdown. Collier's try for the point was blocked and Longview led 6-0.

Longview kicked off again, and intercepted a Tiger pass on the Texarkana 32 to set up their next score a minute later. After Joe Young ate up 14 yards on a running play, Dill sent Johnny Rogerson, former B squad star, through center for a twenty yard dash to the goal. Rogerson, one of the fastest men on the squad, was over the goal before the befuddled Tiger secondary knew who had the ball. Once again the conversion attempt was blocked, and Longview enjoy a 12-0 lead.

Collier's third kickoff was taken by Wright, diminutive Texarkana back, and returned 12 yards to the 20 yard marker. After two plunges by Goff netted the Tigers three yards, Wright dropped back in kick formation. His attempt to punt was blocked by a swarm of Lobo linemen led by Collier and Bob Broussard, who played a terrified game at left tackle in place Ken Hibben. Algee Callahan recovered for the Green and White, and the Lobos scored again three plays later when joltin' Joe Young went over from the three. One more try for the point was no good, and Longview led 18-0 at the end of the first quarter.

The second quarter was a ding-dong affair with both teams tossing passes all over the field, with the Lobos finally connecting for a touchdown which traveled from Bobby Dill to Johnny Callahan, a distance of 25 yards in all just before the end of the first half. That increased the score to 24-0 at halftime as once more Longview failed to convert.

The half ended shortly after the score and statistics showed the Green and White outplaying the Border Patrol by a tremendous margin.

It was a completely rejuvenated Texarkana team which started the second half however, and they threw a scare in the Lobo partisans when they took over shortly after the halftime kickoff and marched 80 yards for their only threat of the evening. The Tigers' try for the point was blocked, and Longview went out in front 24-6.

Any hopes the Tigers had of overcoming that lead, were quickly dispelled a moment later when the Lobos took over on their own 2 yard line after Texarkana's passing assault was stopped single-handedly by Buddy Attaway, who intercepted a Tiger forward on his own 17. A 15-yard clipping penalty set the Lobos back to the 2, and Joe Young went back in kick formation. Standing deep in the end zone, the Lobo fullback faked a kick and plowed through a big hole in the right side of the Texarkana line for a 25 yard gain.

A Bobby Dill aerial to Johnny Callahan picked up five, then Rogerson made it a first down on the Lobo 35. Sturdivant ate up another five yards before Dill went over for a first down on the 45. Another running play with Sturdivant in the ball carrying roll netted 8 yards, before Dill picked up another first on the Texarkana 45. Bobby Dill then shot two straight passes to Johnny Callahan which carried to the enemy 30 as the third quarter ended.

At the start of the fourth, Dill skirted left and for a first down on the 10 yard line before Johnny Rogerson scored two plays later over left guard from five yards out. Collier converted.

The Tigers came back and tried to run through the big Lobo forward wall, but it was no dice as far as men like Numsen, Pakenham, Collier and Broussard were concerned. Their only alternative was to shoot some more aerial fire-works, which bogged down when the alert Attaway intercepted one of Goff's tosses on Texarkana 34. After a pass play went incomplete, Ben Moore came in and shot through left guard for a first down on the 14 yard line, a gain of 17. Dill went wide around his right end for a touchdown, but the referee claimed he stepped out of bounds on the 4 yard line and the ball was put in play at that point.

It took Joe Young just two tries to get the oval into touchdown territory and this time the kick was good to wind up the Lobo scoring for the evening at 38 points.

The game ended shortly afterwards and the final score remained Longview 38, Texarkana 6.
