LOBOS HAVE EVERYTHING GO THEIR WAY IN 45-0 WIN
ATHENS - The Longview Lobo football team lost little time Friday night in serving notice to future opponents that they do have something as they romped to an easy victory over the Athens Hornets, by the score of 45 to 0, in a game played at Athens, the win giving the Lobos their first triumph in District 11-AA conference competition.

Bobby "Pickles" Dill, who bothered the Hornets all evening and scored four times, tallied the first touchdown early in the first period, aided by a 38 yard run by Aycock and his pass, which he caught on the Athens 25 and ran over the goal line. Gooding kicked the extra point.

After the next kickoff, Athens was forced to punt, the ball resting on their 48. Young hit right tackle for five yards, then Aycock, picking his way nicely, skirted right end for 43 payoff yards. Gooding again made good on the extra point. A question arose as to whether the kick would be allowed, as it was thought both teams were offside, but only Athens was and the point was O.K.'d.

At the start of the second quarter with the ball on the Hornets 44, Abie Aycock again passed to Dill on the 2, directly over center and Bobby lugged the pigskin to the 16. Art Rowland then drove to the 6 for another first down. Here Mullikin fell on Young's goal line fumbled and it appeared he had it, but the oval slipped from his grasp only to have the alert Bobby Dill fall on it in the end zone for the touchdown. Numsen's kick was wide. The Lobos led at this stage of the game by a 20 to 0 margin.

Dill's beautiful interception of Baker's pass on his own 30 and returning to the Athens 40, paved the way for the next tally. Rowland added 14 and Young two more. Then Bobby took over again on a hard driving run around right end for 24 yards, standing up. Numsen's try was blocked, making the score 26 to 0.

A few moments later after Baker fumbled on the Lobo 21, and on the first play, Dill again threaded his way nicely to cross the final marker to make it 32 to 0 as Numsen's kick was blocked.

In the third quarter after a double exchange of punts, Athens seemingly refusing to take up the offense, Young, Dill and Rowland combined to make another touchdown, with the latter's 15 yard run being the counter. This time Gooding converted and the score was 39 to 0.

The Lobos tallied their final score when Baker punted short to his 27. King made four, Dill 12. King three more and Kidwell the last six yards for the points. Numsen's kick was blocked again, the final score being Lobos 45 - Hornets 0.

Athens exhibited no offensive threat as they reached Lobo territory only twice, the closet being late in the fourth period, after two successive running first downs put the ball on the Lobo 31. Here they were stymied.

Longview looked better than at any time this season with teamwork being the highlight of the game. Good blocking aided in each of the score from scrimmage.

Coach Pete Shotwell though pleased with his boys had expected tougher opposition.

Next Friday night at 8:00 p.m. the Lobos meet the Texarkana Tigers here at Lobo Stadium.
