LOBOS ROLL OVER JACKSONVILLE, 47-0
JACKSONVILLE - The Lobos blasted their way back into the scoring lead as they regained their old fighting, polished play to pile Jacksonville under a 47-0 score in the Tomato Bowl Friday. The Longview team has 252 points totaled, with leader last week, San Angelo, slipped behind with 248 as they managed only 13 to Odessa's 6 in Friday's contest.

"Big Man" Grigg came back into play after nursing a leg injury since Tuesday, but co-captain Wright Johnson was unable to make the trip. He was home taking care of the flu. Hibbin and Attaway filled Johnson's spot and did it very nicely.

The Lobos grabbed at every break, intercepted seven Jacksonville passes and turned four into scores. The play of Joe Young, Dill and Aycock in backfield relief was brilliant. The second string played the greater part of the final half and kept up the speed, interceptions and drive that the starters demonstrated. Dunaway, off form in the last few games, came back and blocked, ran, intercepted and tackled like in days of ole.

Jimmy Blakeley hit pay dirt four times, taking a lateral from Dunaway in the waning minutes of an evenly played first period for score number one. Number two came after Blakeley tossed a pair of passes to Boyland and Gammon, with Dunaway hitting the center for the last three yards.

Grigg whammed into the Jacksonville backfield to recover a fumble, and stood there hugging the ball while half the Jacksonville's team tried to knock him down. Then by air from Blakely to Bivins for 33 yards and goal. Thomas made his kicking debut and spli the uprights for the conversion.

The teams traded each other passes. Blakeley intercepted a Jack try, then Barron took a pass of Blakeley's, but Roland tipped Barron's toss into Attaway's arms and started Young and Blakeley on a 42-yard march that ended with the latter scoring from the five and Grigg converting. Jacksonville tried the airlines again and this time Bivins caught the leather on the Jacksonville 27-yard line. Then Aycock hit tackle to the 9 and tried the same spot for the touchdown. Grigg added the point. Half ended Longview 33-0.

Aycock took to the air and with Poe and Dill receiving, the Lobos were off again. Young scored and Thomas added the extra point. The final quarter score came after the Lobos tried a long field goal that was short. With Jacksonville making a desperate last minute try by all that Dunaway halted with an intercepted on the Jacksonville 30. Blakeley climaxed the drive with an end around from the 12 and Grigg converted. So the Tomato Bowl game became history.

Longview meets Tyler next in the afternoon of November 11th. Tyler is given an excellent chance of defatting the Lobos. This will be the first season that the Longview team will not go into the game as the definite favorites for quite some time. Tyler will be looking to rebound from their surprise 32-12 defeat to Henderson. They have the heaviest all around team in the conference. Backfield has a starting average of 180 pounds and are fast. The line is just a shade lighter than the Lobos.

The games of the next three weeks will name the champion of the conference. This is no time for the Lobos to shut their eyes. They meet Tyler and Marshall in the next two games. Both teams are as good, perhaps better than Longview. Now is the time to start playing football.
