| LONGVIEW - The Henderson Lions lost their first game of the season Friday night when they were defeated by the Longview Lobos, 32-6. It just wasn't in the books for the Lions to win. All of the breaks were against them, a factor that can easily determine a ball game. The boys fought hard and fought to the finish. The Lions' only score came int he fourth quarter when H.L. Gaston passed to Edward Hooker from the Lobo 10-yard line. During the final quarter, Henderson just outplayed the Longview eleven, the Lions gained 42 yards to 18 for the Lobos.
Four Longview players are great accredited for the victory. They are Blakeley, who scored 18 points, Dunaway, who scored six points, and Johnson and Bivins, who did some fine work. Longview's first score came in the second quarter when Johnny Dunaway went over from the 4-yard line. This score climaxed a 52-yard march, centering around Blakeley and Dunaway. For the second touchdown, Blakeley went over from the 22 standing up. The third Lobo score was made on a pass from Blakeley to Rowland. The next score came in the third quarter when Blakeley went over from the 4-yard line. This touchdown was set up by Johnson when he intercepted a Lion pass and ran 61 yards before he was downed. The final score was made by Blakeley from the 2-yard line. Grigg kicked two extra points. Longview had 12 first won to Henderon's six. Henderson attempted 13 passes, completing seven for them for a total of 86 yards. Longview passed 10 times, completing six of them for 76 yards. Henderson punted nine times for a total of 259 yards. Longview kicked four times for a total of 128 yards. Henderson was penalized 5 yard, while Longview was penalized 50 yards. The starting line up for Longview was Bayland and Cammon at ends; Griggs and Thomas a tackles; Vincent and Richardson at guards; Johnson at center; Blakeley, Bivins, Dunaway and Rowland in the backfield. Substitutions for Henderson were: Rodriguez, Horner, Hedge, Mays and Moore. For Longview they were Young, Raney, Price, Brown, Gooding and Dill. For the entire game Longview gained 128 yards to Henderson's 48. Henderson elected to receive. Griggs kicked off to Green, who returned the ball to the Lions' own 24. Thrasher ht the line for three, Hooker rammed the line for four. On the next play Hooker got loose for nine yards and a first down. Hooker got loose again for 18 yards, but an offside penalty made the play no good. On the next play Hooker kicked to the Lobo 45. Longview hit the line for no gain. Dunaway picks up nine on an off tackle play and three more for a first down. Blakeley skirts end for four more yards, leaving the ball on the Lion 45. Blakeley kicked over the Lion goal line and the ball is moved out to the 20. Hooker gained seven yards through the Lobo line. Gaston adds four to make the second first down. Hooker goes off tackle for four more yards. On the next play Johnson intercepted a Lion pass intended for Hooker, with the ball resting on the Lion 40. Blakeley hits the line for a couple of yards. Blakeley kicked for the Lobos to the Lion three for a 26-yard punt. Thrasher hit the line for no gain. Hooker kicked from behind his own goal out to the Lion 35. The Lobos completed a pass for 12 yards and Henderson recovered on a fumble, leaving the ball in possession of the Lions on their own 20. Hooker goes through the line for five yards. Gaston picks up three more on an off tackle play as the quarter ends. Hooker kicked to Blakeley who returned the ball 27 yards, leaving the ball on the Lions' 37. Blakeley gets loose for 14 yards and a first down. Blakeley skirts left end for 10 yards and a first down. Dunaway gains two yards through the line On the next play Dunaway hits the line for four yards and a touchdown. Griggs converted leaving the score Longview 7, Henderson 0. Griggs kicked off to Hooker, who returned the ball to his own 15. The Lobos recovered a Lion fumble and took over on the Henderson 22. After three unsuccessful attempts to gain any yardage, Blakeley goes over standing up. The conversion was no good. The score: Longview 13, Henderson 0. Griggs kicked to Hooker who returned the ball to his own 32. Hooker kicked to the Lobo 48. On a reverse, Blakeley skirts left end for 15 yards and a first down. Blakeley passes to Bivins for 17 yards as the half ended. Griggs kicked off for the Lobos down to the Lion five to Hooker, who returned the ball up to his own 37, a 32-yard runback After a series of downs, Hooker kicked to the Lobo 41. Blakeley passed to Gammon, a pass good for 17 yards and a first down. Blakeley passed twice more for 20 yards. On the next play, Blakeley passed to Rowland for the score. Griggs converted. Longview 20, Henderson 0. Griggs kicked to the Lion 34. Gaston passed to Watson for six yards. Gaston passed again to Hooker for 18 yards and a first down, leaving the ball on the Lobo 42. The next pass from Gaston intended for Season was incomplete. A screen pass from Gaston to Hooker was good for nine yards. On the next play Hooker kicked to the Lobo 19. Longview was penalized 15 yards for holding. Blakeley kicked to Hedge on the Lobo 43-yard line. Gaston picked up four on an off tackle play. On the next play, Gaston passed to Hooker for seven yards and a first down. After two incomplete passes, Gaston picked up two yards around left end. Hooker kicked to the Lobo 11. Blakeley returned the ball with a kick of 34 yards. Johnson intercepted a flat zone pass and ran 61 yards. On the next play, Blakeley scored around right end. The conversion was no good. Longview 26, Henderson 0. Griggs kicked to Thrasher who made a 7-yard return up to the 36. Hedge passed to Hooker for 30 yards and a first down as the quarter ended. At the start of the fourth quarter, Hooker kicked to the Lobo 20, where Dunaway made a 15-yard return. Blakeley picked up four through he line. On the next play Blakeley gains seven yards and a first down. Bivins gained five more through the line. On their third down, the Lobos completed a pass for six yards and a first down. Longview drew a 5-yard penalty offsides. Bobb Dill hit the line for five yards. Blakeley goes off left tackle for 16 yards, leaving goal to go. Blakeley goes over from the two and a score. The conversion was no good. The score: Longview 32, Henderson 0. Griggs kicked to Hooker not he 12. Gaston picked up five yards for an off tackle play. Hooker rammed the line for three more yards. Hooker kicked to the Lobo 30. Longview was penalized 15 yards for clipping. On the first play Henderson recovered a Longview fumble, leaving the ball in possession of the Lions on the Lobo 14. A long pass over the goal line was incomplete. A 15-yard penalty again Longview moved the ball to the Lobo 10-yard line. On the next play Gaston passed to Hooker for the score.
