LOBOS FINALLY BEAT KILGORE, AFTER THREE LOSSES, 21-0
KILGORE - The Longview Lobos' long wait for a victory over the Kilgore Bulldogs was ends Friday night when they bounced the hustling red-clad boys 21-0 to remove the latter from a tie for top place in the District 11 standings.

The Bulldogs threatened a couple of times in the first half to tie the score but in the third period the Lobos moved in about 90 seconds to remove all doubt as to the outcome with a touchdown in five plays.

Longview scored first in the opening period. After a 40-yard pass from J.T. Jeffress to Bob Crowley had put the Bulldogs in a hole, the Lobos found the going too tough and yielded the ball on downs on the Kilgore 16. Then Kenneth Raney pounced on a fumble on the Bulldog 11, and three plays later the Wolves scored.

The tallying play started from the two and looked like a buck at the middle of the line. Johnny Dunaway took the ball and started that way, handed it to Bill Newson as he passed the big halfback, and Nelson lateraled to Jeffress as he ran wide around the Bulldog left end. Little Jeff wasn't touched. Forrest Grigg converted.

In the second period the Bulldogs got to moving and carried the ball to the Longview seven but the half ended there.

Longview took the kickoff that opened the second half and marched 65 yards to score. Jeffress picked up 22 on a sweep that started things. Dunaway got five in two tries and Crowley went over on a cutback over left tackle that netted 29 yards. Grigg converted again.

The final marker came in the same quarter on one of only five passes Jeffress threw all night. It came on the first play after he had been set back six yards to the Bulldog 31 and he connected with big Ken Abney on the 16. Abney went the rest of the way to tally. Grigg booted his third straight extra point.

The Bulldog passing game was their only feature. The light backs hammered at the Lobo line quite a bit and succeeded in opening it a few times, but for the most part it was energy wasted. The Bulldogs netted but 30 yards from scrimmage all night as compared to Longview's 126.

Longview completed two of five forward passes for 71 yards while the Bulldogs made contact with 14 of 25 for 128 yards.
