RUNNING, PASSING LOBOS TROUNCE TIGERS, 33-0
LONGVIEW - Combining a fast, hard-running attack with some good passing in the clutches and vicious downfield blocking, the Longview Lobos scored in every period here Friday night to defeat the Texas High Tigers of Texarkana, 33 to 0, for the second conference win of the year.

The light Tiger backs showed the Wolves plenty of fight and some good passing by Roy Black and Dick Tanner but their ground game never got far past the scrimmage line and their pass receiving was spotty.

The first time the Wolves got the ball they scored. Taking a kick out on their own 31, the Wolves needed two plays to count. J.T. Jeffress broke off left tackle for 18 yards to the 49 and Robert Crowley sneaked around right end on a reverse for 51 yards and a counter. Grigg converted.

In the second period the Wolves took over on their own 40 and drove over for a score. A pass, Jeffress to Crowley, netted 45 yards and the touchdown, and Grigg converted again.

The Lobos took the third period kickoff and scored without relinquishing the agate. Blakeley, Hughes and Rowland took turns at lugging the ball, and it was Blakeley's 26-yard jag that set the ball up for the counter. He was hauled down on the two-foot line but Rowland went over on first down.

A 40-yard drive in which Rowland and Hughes contributed runs of 10 and 14 paved the way in the fourth for the Lobos next score. Rowland rushed in from the three for the touchdown. Moore converted for a 27-to-0 lead.

The Tigers appeared likely to score late in the game, with Tanner taking over and spearheading a drive to the Lobo 17, where the ball went over. The surge carried to the nine but a loss by Tanner trying to pass put the ball back on the 17.

Then Longview drew a 5-yard penalty and, from the 12, Jeffress hot a 20-yard pass to Crowley near the 35 and the fleet halfback outran the defenders for a touchdown. The play netted 88 yards. Greg failed to convert for the final score.

The Tiger backs, Black, Tanner, Davidson and Burkhalter, showed a lot of class but their blocking was faulty and they never got started. The heavy Lobo line held them to 16 yards net from scrimmage.

First downs favored the Wolves, 12 to 6.
