INTERCEPTIONS GIVE KILGORE ELEVEN EASY TRIUMPH
LONGVIEW - More than 6,000 fans looked on here Friday night as the Kilgore High School bulldogs played their best brand of heads-up football to triumph for the third consecutive year over the Lobos of Longview High. The score was 20-to-0.

It was a Bulldog victory from the beginning. Kilgore backs - Babe Hallmark, Leo Walker, Bill Weast and James Kennedy - ripped the Lobo line to pieces. And the Bulldog line, sparked by hard-hitting Ed Grantham and center Clyde Lindsey, thwarted everything the Lobos attempted.

The Bulldogs pushed across three touchdowns, one in each of the first three periods, and a fourth was called back because of a rule infraction. The win left the Bulldogs near the top of the list as a district crown contender.

Showing their heads-up game, the Bulldogs were there to take advantage of every Lobo miscue. For example, six Lobo passes were intercepted by the Bulldogs. The Lobos and halfback Jeffress took to the air after the first quarter and threw 26 passes in an effort to click.

First downs favored the Lobos, 7 to 5, but this is somewhat misleading. Six Lobo first downs resulted from pass completions and the other came from a Bulldog penalty. Longview never got within striking distance of the Kilgore goal and most of the game was played in Longview's end of the field.

The first Bulldog touchdown came near the end of the opening period. Sharpshooter Babe Hallmark, who had been over-shooting his pass receivers, connected twice to end Ed Staggs for 18 yards and 9 yards respectively for a tally.

The second period score resulted from a pass interception by Lindsey who ran 35 yards for a touchdown. Weast plunged over for the extra point.

In the middle of the third period, Weast caught a Lobo fumble in midair, shook himself clear of would-be tacklers and raced 70 yards for a touchdown. He hit the line for the extra point.

In the first quarter, the Bulldogs kicked off and Longview went to work on their 25. After losing 3 yards from scrimmage, the Lobos punted to Kilgore 's 47. Hallmark picked up 4 yards and Walker made it first and ten on Longview's 41. Two line bucks netted two yards, a pass was incomplete and Walker punted out to the Lobo 13.

Clark punted back to midfield and Hallmark returned the ball 18 yards to Longview's 33. Failing to make a fist down, the Bulldogs kicked out on the 10. Clark's punt was killed on the Lobo 31. Hallmark knifed through for 4 yards. He passed 18 yards to Staggs for a first down on the 11. Weast picked up two yards, and Hallmark passed 9 yards to Staggs for a touchdown. The attempt for extra point failed.

Longview put the kickoff in play on their 35. Clark passed to Abney for 15 yards and a first down. Stagg recovered Jeffress' fumble on the Lobo 48.

In the second quarter, Weast picked up 5 yards and the Bulldogs drew a 15-yard penalty. Walker punted to the Lobo 35. Clark lost 3, the Bulldogs drew a 5-yard penalty, a Lobo pass was wild and Clark punted to the Kilgore 40. On the return punt, Walker sent it to the Lobo 26. After gaining 6 yards, the Lobos kicked. A penalty gave the Bulldogs the ball on Longview's 34.

Three passes were incomplete and Hallmark kicked out on the 15. The Bulldog line threw Eberhardt for two losses totaling 14 yards and Clark punted to Hallmark on the 35. He got loose for a touchdown but the Bulldogs were called back and penalized 15 yards, taking over the Lobo 40. Three passes were wild and Walker kicked out on the 9.

Jeffress passed to Cammack for 21 yards and a first down on the Lobo 31. Lindsey intercepted his next effort and ran 35 yards for a touchdown. Weast plunged for the extra point. Kilgore kicked off and Hallmark intercepted a Lobo pass in midfield as the half ended.

In the third quarter, Longview kicked off to the Bulldog 20. Weast got loose for 31 yards to the Lobo 49. Kennedy and Walked picked up 6 yards, but a 5-yard penalty sent the Bulldogs back and Walked kicked to the Lobo 12. Jeffress passed to Eberhardt for 29 yards and a first down on the Lobo 47. Kilgore drew a 15-yard penalty,

Jeffress fired again to Eberhardt for a first down on the Bulldog 28. After two wild passes, Weast intercepted the next and ran 70 yards for a touchdown. He then hit the line for 3 yards and the extra point.

The Bulldogs kicked off to the Lobo 35. Staggs intercepted a pass on the 40, and Longview drew a 5-yard penalty. Walker plunged for a first down on the Lobo 45. Hallmark punted to the Lobo 45. After a couple of set backs, Hallmark punted to the Lobo 20. And Weast promptly intercepted another pass on the Lobo 37. Walker and Hallmark made a first down on the Lobo 26 before Walked kicked out on the 12. The Lobos passed 15 yards for a first down on their 27 as the period ended.

In the fourth quarter, another Longview pass was good for 13 yards before the Bulldog line smeared Jeffress for an 11-yard loss and Clark punted to the Kilgore 46.

A Bulldog punt was blocked and Longview recovered on the Bulldog 27. Kennedy intercepted Jeffress' pass on the Bulldog 29, and the Kilgore team kicked to the Lobo 42.

Four Lobo line thrusts were stopped and the Bulldogs took over on downs at midfield. Hallmark picked up six yards and then punted to the Lobo 27 as the game ended.
