LOBOS RALLY TO CLIP LUFKIN
LONGVIEW - The Longview Lobos wiggled out of the holes their own mistakes put them in and came from behind to score two touchdowns in the final period to edge out a steamed-up and alert Lufkin club, 19 to 12, in their bidistrict clash here Friday afternoon. The Lobos thereby moved into the quarterfinals against Temple, winner over Stephenville.

Temple and Stephenville tied, 7-7, and Temple won on penetrations.

With captain Don Fambrough setting the pace, the Lobos moved to a 7-0 lead in the second period with a powerhouse eighty-yard march after Ed McMullen, a grand runner and passer, had kicked over the Lobo goal for a touchback and the ball was given to Longview on the 20.

Scott hit left end for six. Fambrough picked up eleven and a first down. Murray and Scott collaborated for three yards, and forward lateral. Scott to McDonald to Fambrough gained sixteen. Fambrough made seven more and Scott hammered out fourteen yards on a reverse. Fambrough hit right tackle for nine. Scott got four more and a first to the Panther 10 and Fambrough launched a power play at the Lufkin right end and went over standing up. He kicked the extra point.

Just before the whistle sounded to end the half Scott quick-kicked forty-five yards out of bounds on the Lufkin 32. On the next play Hill too the ball on a reverse inside the Lobo right end and threaded his way sixty-eight yards for a touchdown. Longview led, 7 to 6, at the half.

The Panthers took a lead in just four plays after the second half kickoff. The Lobos received and on the first play Jones fumbled and Hicks recovered for the Panthers on Longview's 6. McMullen got four over left tackle, lost one at center, and then Hughes lugged it over left guard for the tally. The extra point failed but Lufkin led, 12 to 7.

McMullen did a magnificent job of kicking out from behind his own goal line twice in the third period after SCott's great kicks went out on the Panther 5 and the 7, but his second boot, a fifty-yarder, was returned by Scott to the Panther 41. Fambrough hit left end for four, then center for twelve and a first on the 28. Fambrough and Scott got four, then Fambrough made it first down with a six-yard slash at tackle. Two plays by Fambrough made eight as the quarter ended.

Fambrough picked up two and a first on the 8 then skirted left end for a touchdown. He missed the extra point but the Wolves led, 13 to 12.

The final tally came as a result of Fambrough's pass interception which he gathered in on the Panther 20 and ran back to the 13. Scott got two at right tackle, then Murphy lost three. A forward lateral soured when McDonald, who took Scott's pass, made a bad lateral to Fambrough and the play lost three to the 17. Then Scott rifled a pass to Bivins who carried over for the final score.
