LOBO PARADE HITS DOWNTOWN LONGVIEW TONIGHT
LONGVIEW - A parade celebrating the Longview Lobos' state championship win will take to the streets of downtown Longview tonight.

The parade will kick off at 6:30 p.m., but the festivities start at 5:30 p.m. when an early celebration will begin at Heritage Plaza, Green and Methvin streets in downtown Longview, according to Longview ISD spokeswoman Elizabeth Ross.

Children's activities and food trucks are planned, and the Lobo Store and Class of '79 will be part of the event.

A number of school and community organizations are expected to participate in the parade. The News-Journal had reported that one of the parade participants would be Alyce Monsour, who graduated from Longview High School in 1937, the last time the Lobos won a state championship.

However, Monsour, 98, has decided not to be in the parade because of concern about cold temperatures.

The parade route is generally the same route the annual Christmas parade follows, with a couple of differences, including that it will not cross High Street.

The parade will start at Green and Whaley streets, travel west on Whaley past the Gregg County Courthouse to Center Street, turn south on Center Street and then return east on Methvin Street to end at First Street.

Watch for street closures around that route in advance of the parade.

The Lobos won the Class 6A, Division II title Dec. 23 over Beaumont West Brook with a score of 35-34 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington.
