LONGVIEW ROMPS OVER KILGORE IN 41-0 LANDSLIDE
KILGORE - The Kilgore High School Bulldogs were absolutely unable to cope with the dazzling attack of the Longview Lobos led by the scintillating, skipping Jack Skipper, Lobo quarterback, and bowed in defeat by a score of 41 to 0 before the biggest crowd of the season here Friday night.

In fact Kilgore never advanced the ball further than the Lobos' 23-yard line despite one power parade which netted five consecutive first downs in the third period when Kilgore took the ball on their own 5-yard marker and plunged, passed and sprinted down to the Longview 23-yard line where they lost the ball on an intercepted pass.

Skipper was the reason the Longview team appeared to be a one-man team - but what a man! He passed, plunged and ran the ball until the Bulldogs were groggy, then scored a touchdown, then kicked the extra point. Not once but again, and again.

Four of the six touchdowns prominently involved Skipper and he kicked the point four times, for a personal score of 28.

Matthews and Whatley accounted for the other Lobo tallies. Simm playing at end was the defensive star.

When Skipper was out of the game during the third period was the only time that the Bulldogs showed advantage. Like the Lobos, the Bulldogs looked like a one-man team. The man was, as always, Dell Taylor. Brymer, replacing Morris Shepherd, injured Bulldog player, in the backfield, showed to advantage on occasion as did Robinson and Divers but Divers was unable to get loose as he has in previous games.

Taylor accounted for most of the Kilgore yardage although Brymer made the longest run of 31 yards off tackle and through the field. Taylor also was conspicuous on the defense rushing through Kilgore's tissue paper line to smear Skipper and the other Longview backs for occasional losses.

The Lobos scored two touchdowns in the first quarter. The first came after Kilgore drew a penalty for interference placing the ball on the Kilgore one-yard line. Skipper went over standing up and converted the point.

The second tally came shortly after a Longview touchdown from the 16 yard line was called back and the Lobos penalized five yards. Johnson passed to Simms from the 21-yard line and picked up eleven yards. The next two plays netted a first down on the 13-yard line. Skipper then went over to the one-foot line and Matthews plunged through for the second tally, converting the point to make the score at the end of the first period 14 to 0.

In the second quarter the Lobos again scored twice. The first one came from a determined march down the field which stated when Skipper passed to Abrams for a first down on the Kilgore 25-yard marker. Skipper picked up nine yards then picked up 15 putting the ball on the one-yard line. From there he stepped across again converting the point.

The second touchdown came just before the end of the half. A pass, Johnston to Lebus, placed the ball on the 10-yard stripe. Jordan gained five yards for a first down. Then a pass from Lebus to Whatley across the goal line accounted for a tally. The try for point failed.

In the third quarter, with most of the Longview first string on the bench, Kilgore made a determined effort to score and fought the Lobos throughout the period on an even basis. Kilgore got in possession of the ball when three players converted a Longview fumble on the five-yard marker.

A five-yard penalty against the Lobos and a six-yard gain by Taylor meant a first down on the 16. After a short gain by Taylor, Brymer made a first down on the Kilgore 27-yard line. After two short gains Taylor ran for a first down on the 39. Then Brymer got free for the most spectacular Kilgore play on a reverse from Taylor and gained a first down, after a 31-yard day, on the Longview 36-yard line.

Two short gains and a Longview penalty gave Kilgore its fifth straight first down on the Longview 25-yard stripe. Three plays later Kilgore lost the ball on an intercepted pass after advancing to the 23.

Longview's first string returned in the final period to accomplish their two-touchdowns-a-period quota. Kilgore took the ball on downs on their own 21-yard line only to lose it on the first play when Skipper intercepted a pass and raced to the 12-yard line.

Lebus gained two yards and Skipper gained two to place the ball on the 8-yard line. Skipper went across from there for the touchdown and converted the point.

Kilgore took the ball back of the goal line on the kickoff and returned to the 16-yard line where, on the second play the Bulldogs attempted a pass which was intercepted by Cantrell on the 30. Cantrell ran the ball back to the Kilgore 14-yard line.

On the next play, Skipper went off tackle standing up for the final tally and converted the point.

The game ended in a welter of Longview penalties and reciprocal fumbles deep in Kilgore territory.
