CHAMPION LOBOS TO BE BANQUET GUESTS
LONGVIEW - Longview's high school's Lobos, champions of the Texas Interscholastic League following their smashing 19 to 12 victory over Wichita Falls in the final round Saturday in Dallas, will be guests of honor here Jan. 14 at a banquet given by the Longview junior chamber of commerce. Announcement of the plans for the celebration was made Monday.

All of Longview's civid clubs will join the Jaycees in holding the banquet, Les Sigmund, chairman of the publicity committee, said Monday.

"The Lions club, the Rotary club, the Kiwanis club, the Elbow club, the Retail Merchants' association, and the chamber of commerce all have pledged their support to the project," Sigmund said, "and there will be a complete 'union of forces' to make the banquet the biggest affair of its kind Longview has ever had."

Football fans who have followed the Lobos up and down the state this year will be given a chance to show their appreciation to the club by attending the party, the site of which has not yet been selected. Tickets will go on sale shortly at Tom's cigar store, and all Jaycee members will assist by selling the ducats themselves.

All coaches in the Southwest conference and a number of outstanding players in the same loop have been invited to attended the big party, Sigmund said. Already two members have accepted. They are Rice's Jimmy Kittening and Texas Christian's Dutch Meyer, who will appear on the program.

Kitt will bring with him a film of one fo Rice's important games and will show it at the banquet. Ernie Lain, all-conference halfback from Rice, will accompany Kitts, Sigmund said. Lain has seen the Lobos in the last three games they have played.

Gilbert Staats is general chairman in charge of the banquet arrangements. Other chairmen included: Entertainment, Austin Lee Hatchell; Publicity, Les Sigmund; Menu and place committee, E. N. Maledon; Ticket sales, James R. Curtis; and Reception, Harry Rankin.
