LONGVIEW DEFEATS MARSHALL, 40-6
MARSHALL - Marshall High School's Mavericks were trampled in the grime of Fair Park stadium here as a smooth-running Longview High School machine ran roughshod to a 40-to-6 victory.

It was the worst whipping a Marshall schoolboy eleven ever received at the hands of the Lobos.

Attendance was estimated at 3,200 with about 1,500 from Longview. The victory left Longview undefeated in conference with three victories, while Marshall took its third consecutive setback in District 10 competition.

Skipper and Black led the Lobo touchdown parade, Skipper scoring three touchdowns and Black two. Matthews accounted for the other tally.

Longview scored twice in the opening period, Skipper going over from the 1-yard line after a pass, Black to Hardy, laid the oval on the 9-yard line. Skipper's 35-yard run and 4-yard plunge at center brought a second score later in the quarter.

Black intercepted a pass and ran 52 yards for a touchdown in the second period. Near the end of the half, Skipper took a flat pass from Black and ran 60 yards behind good blocking.

Matthews bucked four yards for a score in the final period, Black adding another touchdown at the climax of a steady drive near the end of the game.

Marshall's lone touchdown came in the third quarter when co-captain Ed Whitehurst took a 20-yard pass from Harkins and galloped 15 more for pay dirt. Agnor failed to convert.

Fumbles cost the Mavericks scoring opportunities in the second and third periods. An alert defense nullified Marshall's passing attack.

The Red and White forward wall was played off its feet by the Lobo line. There were spotlight performers in the Maverick line. Longview's Brannon brothers and Sims at end featured for the Lobo line.
