| LONGVIEW - Pitting a second team against unexpected strength to allow them to get off to a 13 marker lead. Coach Wilkinson's High School Loboes lost the fifth conference game of the season tot he Jefferson High Bulldogs of the Lobo field here Thursday afternoon. Wilkinson had planned to let his second string bear the burden of the game, but played off their feet in the first ten minutes, they were unable to do anything with the visitors.
In the first five minutes of play the visitors got off to a touchdown and a kick when Nelson got away with an end run on the third play of the game. The second drive with three other plays put the ball on Longview's 6-yard line after a pass by Bower was good for 30 yards. Here the entire first string of the Loboes went into the game. Jefferson was thrown for a five yard loss. It was the fourth down on the next two plays with 5 yards and a goal to go. Bower passed to Ramsey over the goal line making the score Jeffers 13 and Longview 0. Jefferson kicked off and Hill returned 34 yards to Longview's 42-yard line. Hill made 8 yards at left end. A pass McFarland to Grimes was good to the other fifty yards and a touchdown. Harper kicked goal. Score, Jefferson 13 and Longview 7. After a series of line plays and passes the ball went to Longview on their own 34-yard line. A pass was intercepted by Shaw and Jefferson placed the ball on their foot line. Bower ran around right end for the touchdown. The kick was blocked. Score, Jefferson 19 and Longview 7. In the second half the ball was Jefferson's on Longview's 48-yard line. A pass was good for 16 yards. Three plays made no gain and a pass netted 11 yards, placing the ball on Longview's 21-yard line. A third pass was intercepted by captain Grimes, who with perfect interference ran through the entire Jefferson team for a touchdown. Kick for extra point failed. Score, Jefferson 19 and Longview 13. In the last quarter it was Jefferson's ball on Longview's 42-yard line. A pass was good for 31 yards. The ball stopping on the 11-yard line. Three plays later, and four yards, Jefferson fumbled and the ball went over. After a series of plays it was Longview's ball on Jefferson's 31-yard line. A pass McGarland to Grimes was good for 14 yards, placing the ball on the 17-yard line. Another pass, McFarland to Grimes was good for 6 yards. A third pass put the ball on the one yard line. Three plays lacked only a few inches making the first down. The fourth play put the ball on the one foot line and a first down. After three other plays, which failed to gain anything, Longview fumbled and the ball went over. Jefferson kicked to center field and recovered the ball when Longview was held for no gain, then kicked again as the game ended. |
