LOBOS CLAIM TOP SPOT IN DISTRICT WITH 36-13 WIN
MCKINNEY - Longview faced a challenge when it traveled to play McKinney North at McKinney ISD Stadium on Friday night, and used a strong first half effort to earn a 36-13 road win, break a tie for first place in District 7-5A Division I with two regular season games to play, and clinch a UIL playoff berth.

The Lobos will bring a 7-1 season record and a 5-0 district record to the 100th installment of their rivalry with Tyler and next Friday's 7:30 p.m. regular season home finale at Lobo Stadium, while the Bulldogs own respective 6-2 and 4-1 marks before they meet Forney in a 7 p.m. road game at City Bank Stadium.

"The way we were able to run the ball," Longview athletic director and head football coach John King said of what stood out about his team's performance on Friday. "I thought both [running] backs [Taylor Tatum and Kelvin Washington] had great nights. [Plus] Andrew Tutt's leadership."

McKinney North jumped ahead 7-0 when quarterback Colin Hitchcock connected with Kameron Powell on a 23-yard touchdown pass at the 3:31 mark of the first quarter.

Longview then went to work and tied the score 7-7 during Dakaylen Reese's 17-yard touchdown run at the 10:03 mark of the second quarter.

Taylor Tatum tacked on a one-yard touchdown run and quarterback Andrew Tutt followed with a successful two-point conversion run to give the Lobos their first lead at 15-7 at the 5:55 mark of the period.

Tatum then extended his team's margin to 22-7 during a two-yard carry with 1:43 to play in the first half. He led the Lobo charge with 21 carries for 151 rushing yards and two touchdowns, while Tutt completed three of his eight pass attempts for 69 yards.

McKinney North's offense then drove all the way to the red zone, but Longview's Thomas Roel intercepted a Hitchcock pass in the end zone with four ticks until halftime.

Kelvin Washington stepped on the gas when he produced a 17-yard touchdown run at the 3:38 mark of the third quarter and a goal line score at the 7:05 mark of the fourth period.

Washington finished the night with 14 carries for 133 rushing yards and a pair of touchdowns.
