LOBOES HELD TO 6-6 TIE WITH MOUNT PLEASANT
MOUNT PLASANT - Longview's Loboes continued their march toward their second consecutive district championship Friday by maintaining their record of no defeats when they managed to hold the Mount Pleasant eleven to a 6 to 6 tie at the latter's gridiron.

Fatigued by their slow journey in a truck to Mount Pleasant and having developed stiff muscles during the cold trip, the Loboes entered the game with considerably dampened spirit and during the first half of the game were completely outplayed, after which they rallied their spirit to eke out a tie game.

Mount Pleasant, one of the three undefeated teams in the district, opened the game by scoring a touchdown in the first four plays. Longview's kickoff was a fake and the Mount Pleasant eleven took the ball on the 50-yard line from where they took it over the goal line on four consecutive plays. The try for point after however failed.

After this setback, the Loboes steadied and during the remainder of the game kept the early scorers in midfield or in the shadow of their own goal.

Both teams resorted to a passing game during the second and third quarters, finding that line plunges were netting but small occasional gains. During the middle of the third quarter, the Loboes succeeded in taking the ball to within a few yards of the goal where they failed to deliver the punch necessary to carry it over.

Mount Pleasant's punt, on the first play after the ball changed hands, in order to get the ball out of the danger zone, was blocked by Meredith who crashed through the heavy opponent's forward wall. James fell on it behind the goal line for the tying score. The try for extra point, sufficient to wing he game, fizzed after which neither team was able to score again.

During the last half, the Loboes carried the ball within the Mount Pleasant 10-yard line four times, only to see it go over on downs. The Mount Pleasant eleven managed to take the ball within the Lobo 20-yard line once during the game, the fray developing into mid-field game.

Eighteen passes were attempt by the Mount Pleasant players, four of where were completed. Longview's eleven tried nine and completed six, the latter's incomplete passes coming while they were within the Mount Pleasant 10-yard line.

Nine first downs were made by each team.
