LOBOS GO WILD IN 75-43 WIN OVER JESUIT
DALLAS - Saturday's game plan for the Lobos sounded simple: Score some points and get some stops.

Longview did just that.

With a nearly flawless effort offensively and more than a couple of key stops defensively, December football is returning to Longview as the Lobos knocked off Dallas Jesuit with a wild 75-43 win in a Class 6A, Division II, Region II area playoff game at Kincaide Stadium in Dallas.

"We knew we were going to have to score some points offensively because they were so good on offense," Longview head coach John King said. "It was going to come down to who was going to get a stop or a turnover and we were able to do that.

"We had big plays offensively, running the ball and throwing the ball and hit them at the right time."

With the win, Longview (11-1) advances to the regional semifinals where they'll meet Klein Collins (11-0) at 2 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 2, at Baylor's McLane Stadium in Waco.

"I'm very proud to know what we went through early on with injuries, how we started district play and what we were able to get done in district to earn a home game, win round one, win round two and advance to round three," King said. "No one gave us anything. We had to earn every bit of it.

"I tell them all the time a team to remember plays in December and this is definitely one of them."

The numbers from Saturday's game matched the big numbers on the scoreboard.

Longview rolled up 627 yards on offense while Jesuit totaled 610 overall. The Lobos did so on 36 offensive snaps, compared to 92 from the Rangers, who came into the second-round meeting averaging 47 points per game.

"They didn't quit and they kept plugging away," King said of the defense. "Our kids just kept playing and we did a good job of getting some crucial stops and turnovers.

"Jesuit's offense has done that against everyone this season. We knew they were going to keep coming."

Longview's defense came away with a three-and-out in the first quarter and two second-quarter fumble recovers. Roshodrick Harmon and Jephaniah Lister had interceptions in the second half while Ja'Vontae Writt recovered his second fumble of the night for five turnovers overall. Jaylon Allen recovered Jesuit's third fumble.

Meanwhile, the Lobo offense responded to every one, scoring on its first nine possessions, most of the time very quickly. Longview's scoring drives went in terms of plays: three, three, five, one, four, two, six, two, one, one and four.

Jaquan Edwards had four touchdowns on 12 carries for a 193-yard night with runs of 66, 57, 16 and four yards. Keilyn Williams had 156 yards on just eight touches and three touchdowns on bursts of 75, 35 and 14 yards. JKameron Riggins added the seventh Lobo rushing score on a 31-yard run.

Longview finished with 462 rushing yards in the win.

Quarterback Haynes King finished a perfect 6-for-6 for 157 yards and three touchdowns. He added 77 rushing yards, including a 27-yard scramble on Longview's first third down conversion. Longview saw third down four times overall, two in the fourth quarter.

Kamden Perry hauled in a 58-yard score and A'Darius Carter had a 63-yard touchdown catch. Jaylin Brown entered the Lobo record books, hauling in an eight-yard pass from King, giving him 18 in his two-year career to pass Lobo standout Malcolm Kelly. Brown also recovered two Jesuit onside kick attempts.

Jesuit, who finished with 610 yards overall, was led by quarterback Parker Towns, who threw for 433 yards and two touchdowns on 32-of-49 passing. He added 41 yards rushing with a touchdown. Sophomore EJ Smith scored twice and had 97 yards on 20 carries.

Jesuit marched from its own 12 to start the game before punting at the Lobo 48-yard line.

On Longview's third snap, Edwards went 66 yards to the house.

Jesuit responded with a nine-play, 75-yard march and the ensuing two-point run to claim its only lead of the night, 8-7, with 2:53 left in the first quarter.

The lead didn't last long.

Williams sparked 28 unanswered points with a 35-yard touchdown run.

Meanwhile, the Lobo defense recovered a fumble on consecutive drives, the second leading to a four-yard score from Edwards to put Longview up 35-8 with 3:06 left in the first half.

Jesuit with nine seconds left for a 35-14 Longview lead at halftime.

The Rangers pulled to within two-scores, 35-21, to open the third quarter.

Twenty-four seconds later, King hit Carter in stride for a 63-yard score, sparking another 21-0 Lobo run around picks from Harmon and Lister with Writt's second fumble recovery.

Longview lead 56-21 entering the fourth quarter before the teams combined for 41 points in the final 12 minutes.
