LONGVIEW DOMINATES MESQUITE, 61-3
MESQUITE - Longview took care of business against Mesquite on Friday night in the regular-season finale.

Now, it's playoff time.

Longview scored 61 unanswered points to close out the regular season at 9-1 overall and 6-1 in District 11-6A play with a 61-3 thumping of Mesquite at Hanby Stadium in Mesquite.

Up next is a rematch of last season's first round as the Lobos play host to Beaumont West Brook in a Class 6A, Division II, Region II bi-district contest at 7 p.m., Friday at Lobo Stadium. The Bruins knocked off Longview 34-33 in 2016 in Beaumont.

Jalen Carr pulled down two interceptions against Mesquite, giving him eight on the season, and recovered a first-quarter onside kick from Longview, sparking two Longview touchdowns in a 40-second span and kicking off a 61-point romp.

Haynes King finished 11-for-17 passing for 215 yards and two touchdowns, both going to tight end Jaylin Brown in the second quarter.

Five different Lobo rushers had scores, led by a nine-carry, 91-yard night from Jaquan Edwards, who scored on a 21-yard run in the first quarter.

Keilyn Williams had his fifth multi-touchdown night of the season, finishing with touchdown runs of four and 26 yards.

Jordan Lawson, Jkameron Riggins and Juvarrs Lampkin rounded out the night on the ground for Longview, which finished with 202 rushing yards on 28 carries.

A'Darius Carter pulled down four passes for 79 yards and Kamden Perry had four catches for 71 yards from King.

Chris Kessler, who verbally committed to Texas State on Thursday, rounded out the Lobo scoring with a 41-yard field goal.

Defensively, Longview held Mesquite out of the end zone and held the Skeeters to 187 total yards, 167 coming in the second half.

Tainique Taylor pulled down Longview's third interception of the night and the Lobo defense, which held Mesquite to 2-for-13 on third-down conversion attempts, got big nights from JC Blakemore and Cameron Starling.

Mesquite (1-9, 0-7) struck first on a 33-yard field goal from Iram Perez, after Longview turned the ball over on downs at the Skeeter 30 to start the game.

King rolled out and hit Perry for 43 yards, setting up a four-yard scoring run from Williams to put Longview ahead 7-3.

Carr scooped up the ensuing onside attempt and, after a 13-yard completion from King to Perry, Edwards went 21 yards to the house for two scores in 40 seconds and a 14-3 Longview lead after the first quarter.

Luther Williams had a tackle for loss for Longview on fourth down and, four plays later, King connected with Brown for a 38-yard score.

After Carr's first pick of the night, King and Brown connected again for 15 yards.

Kessler booted a 41-yard kick as time expired in the second quarter to put Longview ahead, 31-3.

Williams had a 26-yard run in the third quarter and Longview got two points off a safety on the ensuing kickoff.

Lawson capped an eight-play, 62-yard drive with a two-yard score before Riggins went 30 yards and Lampkin closed scoring with a 35-yard run to lock in the 58-point win.
